Taylor Kitsch was born on April 8, 1981, in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. His mother, Susan Green, raised him in a mobile home park, and his early years were shaped by modest beginnings.

When he was just a year old, his parents separated, leaving his mother to raise him and his two elder brothers. Despite facing financial difficulties, he developed a passion for ice hockey and pursued it with tenacity. However, in 2002, a knee injury ended his ambition of a professional hockey career.

Following his injury, Kitsch studied nutrition and economics at the University of Lethbridge before moving to New York City in search of modeling and acting. During this period, he faced homelessness and sometimes slept on subway trains.

In 2002, Kitsch signed with IMG Models and began studying acting. His career gained traction when he moved to Los Angeles in 2004, modeling for brands like Diesel and Abercrombie & Fitch. He first made a big impression in 2006 when he was Tim Riggins in NBC's Friday Night Lights.
