Marlene Warren was a victim of the Killer Clown
As shown previously on 48 Hours on ID, Marlene Warren was murdered by the killer clown on the morning of May 26, 1990. A person disguised as a clown and carrying balloons and flowers approached the Warren’s residence and as Marlene opened the door, she was shot several times. After shooting, the killer clown slowly walked away from the scene as revealed by the victim's son, who was an eyewitness.
Reportedly, the killer clown was wearing white gloves and black shoes, apart from the entire costume set as revealed by Joe Ahrens, Marlene’s son.
As shown previously on 48 Hours on ID, the clown was six feet tall and after the killing, he got into his white Chrysler LeBaron and drove into gear like nothing happened. Joe tried to chase the killer, however, he wasn’t successful because he had a broken foot. Marlene Warren was rushed to the hospital where she stayed on life support for two days, after which she breathed her last.
Mike Warren, the husband was on the prime suspect list, however, he had an alibi and was later cleared. Another Florida resident Sheila Keen, who was having an alleged affair with Michael Warren was also a suspect.
The evidence pointed at Sheila Keen being the killer
As shown previously in 48 Hours on ID, the detectives recovered the white car that the killer used. Inside the car, synthetic orange fiber and brown hair were recovered, which matched the one found inside Keen’s residence. The gun used in the killing and the clown set were however never recovered.
One of the shopkeepers named Deborah also claimed that a woman who looked like Sheila Keen had come to her store late at night to purchase the clown set. Although DNA matched and linked Sheila to being the killer clown, it was still not enough to make an arrest.
However, in 2017, after 17 long years, with a new and more reliable DNA technology, Sheila Keen-Warren was finally arrested. On April 25, 2023, she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the murder of Marlene Warren.
