Who is Clayface in Batman: The Animated Series?
In Batman: The Animated Series, Clayface is the alter ego of the former actor Matt Hagen. He appears in four episodes of the animated series, with three episodes in season 1 and one episode in season 2.
After his face is disfigured in a car accident, Hagen enlists the help of industrialist Roland Daggett, whose compound, Renuyu, temporarily restores his face. Over time, Hagen becomes addicted to Renuyu and steals the compound from Daggett's factory in desperation.
However, the compound alters his human body and transforms him into a clay-like form. He gains the ability to shapeshift at will for a short period. Once Clayface's body begins deteriorating, he creates a young girl named Annie to help him. But the clay-formed Annie ends up with Robin in Gotham.
While searching for Annie, Clayface encounters Robin, and the two come to blows. During their fight, Robin reabsorbs Annie and becomes whole again.
