Bridgerton season 4 is the upcoming intsallment of the Netflix original series that follows an alternate history version of Britain's Regency era, where Queen Charlotte's African descent prompted greater racial integration within Britain. The series is based on Julia Quinn's early 2000s novels of the same name.
Season 3 was released in two parts in May and June 2024. It shook up the adaptation order of the novels by focusing on the fourth novel in the series, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. The next season will adapt the third novel titled An Offer From a Gentleman which highlights the story of Benedict Bridgerton, making him the lead character of Bridgerton season 4.
On July 23, the show's official Instagram account confirmed the news with the caption:
"It has been brought to this author’s attention that perhaps it is time to unmask the newest suitor of the marriage mart. Benedict Bridgerton's story is coming next season."
Benedict has so far taken a backseat to the stories of his siblings throughout the first three seasons, with him being in the relative background as they've fulfilled their romantic destinies. With season 4, it will be his time to step into the limelight.
Netflix confirms Benedict as the leading star for Bridgerton season 4
Benedict has been confirmed as the leading man for Bridgerton season 4. In the novel An Offer from a Gentleman, Benedict meets his love interest, a woman in silver, at a masquerade ball. Season 4 has been confirmed to follow the same plot.
The lady in silver turns out to be the lowborn woman named Sophie Beckett. After all this time believing he was not the kind of man to be tied down, Bridgerton season 4 will explore Benedict finally finding true love in his life.
Explaining the decision to delay Benedict's story to season 4, showrunner Jess Brownwell shared an official statement with Netflix:
"It felt important for him to explore the fullness of himself before he settles down. He is someone who has big appetites, and we wanted to see him living a big life before he goes into settle-down mode."
Despite not being the focus character during the first three seasons, Benedict Bridgerton has had his share of romantic entanglements. In season 3, he discovered that he was pansexual, as he had a threesome with Lady Tilley Arnold and Paul Suarez. Benedict ended his relationship with Lady Tilley after she decided to go back to being monogamous.
In earlier seasons, he'd resisted the traditional marriage process and pursued affairs with those who society would deem unconventional choices, such as working-class ladies including Madam Delcroix and Tessa. With Sophie Beckett herself being lowborn, Benedict seems poised to buck societal norms once again in Bridgerton season 4.
Where are the other siblings as of Bridgerton season 4?
While Benedict will be the protagonist of season 4, the series overall follows the entire Bridgerton family as they come of age. Season 1 adapted The Duke and I, novel and narrated the story on Daphne and her eventual marriage to the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset.
Season 2 was inspired by The Viscount Who Loved Me, and shed light on Anthony Bridgerton's love affair with Kate Sharma. Meanwhile, season 3 adapted Romancing Mister Bridgerton, and brought Colin Brdgerton's courtship with Penelope Featherington to spotlight.
After Benedict's plot is explored in Bridgerton season 4, the remaining stories to be covered in the forthcoming installments include Eloise Bridgerton, Francesca Bridgerton, Hyacinth Bridgerton, and Gregory Bridgerton.
While the period drama has only been renewed for season 4 thus far, producer Shonda Rhimes and showrunner Jess Brownell have stated their intention to adapt all of Julia Quinn's original novels for the screen.
Bridgerton is available for streaming on Netflix in all regions.
