Netflix viewers were surprised as Emily In Paris' season 4 has only five episodes, as opposed to its usual format of 10 episodes every season. Dropped on the streaming service at one go on August 15, 2024, the five episodes are "Break Point", "Love on the Run", "Masquerade", "The Grey Area" and "Trompe l'oeil", respectively.

Fans started theorising about the reasons about Emily in Paris season 4 having fewer episodes than usual. As per a May 3, 2024 post made by Netflix UK & Ireland, it was mentioned that the show's fourth season would be released in two parts.

After the first part of Emily in Paris comprising five episodes released, the remaining five of part 2 are expected to follow suit on September 12, 2024.

Why Emily in Paris season 4 has only five episodes

Recently, prominent video streaming sites like Netflix have started using an aggressive business strategy ensuring a high level of user engagement on their platforms over an extended period.

To do so, platforms tend to split up shows into two parts to create suspense and draw in people to visit the platform more frequently than they usually would.

The same has been applied to several other Netflix shows in the past. Shows like Stranger Things season 4, Bridgerton season 3 and Kobra Kai season 6 were all released in parts, with Kobra Kai being the only show to be releasing in three parts, with only the first part released so far.

The views regarding the streaming platform's decision to split shows into parts are not unanimous. While some believe that it's an exercise by Netflix to cash in more profits by increasing platform engagement, others believe that it's a way of tackling a supply crunch that might have resulted from the prolonged SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes that put Hollywood into a standstill in 2023.

However, while some have eased up to the idea of waiting for shows on Netflix, some have been sceptical about it owing to its inability of being binge-worthy.

About Emily in Paris season 4

Emily in Paris season 3 ended on a cliffhanger with Camille disrupting her and Gabriel's impromptu wedding after Gabriel had agreed to marry her after learning that she was pregnant.

While breaking off their marriage, Camille said that she was aware that Gabriel still loves Emily and the only reason Camille and Gabriel were at the altar was because she broke a pact she had entered with Emily about none of them pursuing Gabriel romantically.

Alfie, Emily's boyfriend, who was also in attendance, left the venue after breaking things off with Emily.

In a later scene, Emily and Gabriel are having a heart-to-heart conversation where both share their feelings for each other, and Gabriel reveals that Camille is pregnant. Season 4 of the show picks up from there and sheds light on all the characters' lives following the incident.

The official synopsis for Emily in Paris season 4 by Tudum reads:

"After the dramatic events of Camille and Gabriel’s misbegotten wedding, Emily is reeling. Emily has strong feelings for two men, but Gabriel is on the verge of becoming a father, and ex-boyfriend Alfie’s worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed."

All five episodes of Emily in Paris season 4 are streaming on Netflix.
