The Acolyte season 1 premiered exclusively on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, and concluded with the last episode on July 16, 2024. Fans of the show hoped for more seasons after the sci-fi drama ended with massive cliffhangers. However, the fans may be left hanging, as the second season of the web series has reportedly been canceled, as per Deadline.

Soon after the news of the cancellation spread, the Disney store reportedly removed all the merch related to The Acolyte. The abrupt cancellation of the show's upcoming season is believed to be the most probable reason for the merch removal.

The Acolyte failed to sustain interest

The Acolyte has garnered divided reviews for its eight-episode run. The Star Wars spin-off series holds a good approval rating of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, but its IMDb rating stands at just 4.1/10.

The series started with a bang and got 4.8 million views on the first day of its release, as reported by Deadline. Nevertheless, the following episodes couldn’t sustain the hype, and the viewership tanked.

With a reported budget of $180 million as per IMDb, the low viewership and ratings of the series did not match Disney's expectations, thereby ending it with just one season.

Fans of the show have made assumptions on social media platforms like Reddit and X, that the mystery-thriller is less popular than other Disney shows, therefore the merch was not widely sold. Additionally, removing the merch signals that the show will not be renewed.

Even still, there's a lot of criticism of season 1 on social media. Roughly $25 million was spent on each episode, but the viewership was not up to par. Despite the large fan base of Star Wars, Acolyte was unable to bring the community together.

Not only was the first installment's writing uneven throughout, but the episodes' run times were also shortened. The show couldn't hold its own against shows like House of the Dragon and The Boys, which have episodes that last about an hour each.

Despite the intense action throughout the entire season, the first season's direction and plot were subpar.

Here is the Acolyte merch, which fans will miss out on

  • Sith The Acolyte Star Wars Helmet
  • High Republic Jedi Belt
  • Sith The Acolyte Star Wars Gauntlet
  • Sith The Acolyte Star Wars Jedi Lightsaber
  • Acolyte action figures

Although Disney+ has taken down all the merch, fans can still purchase the same from other third-party websites and e-commerce giants.

What is in store for Star Wars fans?

Although The Acolyte season 2 most likely stands canceled, Star Wars fans have a lot in store with Star Wars: Andor season 2, Star Wars: Ahsoka season 2, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and The Mandalorian and Grogu directed by Jon Favreau, which is set to hit the big screens on May 22, 2026, among many others.

Those who have not watched Acolyte can stream the show on Disney+. The show's synopsis reads:

"A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes but discovers the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated."
