Fans of the Apple TV+ show Disclaimer are already wondering if there will be a Disclaimer season 2. As of writing, Apple TV has not greenlit the production of a second season. However, there are several character and plot elements from the first season of the show that can justify the announcement of Disclaimer season 2.

The finale of Disclaimer season 1 was released on Apple TV+ on November 8, 2024. In this episode, several explosive truths come to the fore, complicating the viewers’ understanding of the whole plot.

For instance, Catherine reveals to Stephen how Jonathan, his son, had r*ped her all those years ago in Italy. Essentially, the first season of Disclaimer is about how multiple versions of truth often jostle against one another for validation. Disclaimer season 2 could be about the consequences of the wrong version getting the upper hand.

Disclaimer season 2: What aspects could be addressed in a new season?

The future of Catherine

The most important element that Disclaimer season 2, should it materialize, will have to deal with is the protagonist’s future, of course. As the finale of season 1 ends, the narrator tells us that Catherine’s future is uncertain.

She has divorced Robert and is looking forward to improving her relationship with her son. Though there seems to be a semblance of closure as far as her personal life is concerned, her professional life is more or less ruined. She has been fired from her job for assaulting a co-worker, and the video of the same has gone viral.

Catherine starts Disclaimer season 1 as an award-winning journalist who will not stop in her quest for the truth, no matter the subject and notwithstanding the challenges the mission may entail. However, as the series progresses, her credibility keeps dwindling. Will she be able to restore it?

Additionally, Disclaimer season 2 could also show how well Catherine is actually able to cope with the traumas of the past. Now that the past has been dug up by Stephen’s mission of vendetta, there is no hiding it, which is what Catherine has forever been trying to do.

What about Stephen?

Stephen emerges as a tragic hero in Disclaimer season 1. He starts the show as an agent of retribution, out to take revenge on Catherine for what she allegedly did to his son decades back in Italy.

However, by the end of the finale, there is a massive fall in his stature. Not only does he come to realize that Catherine has been the victim of the situation, not Jonathan, but also he has to come to terms with the fact that his late son was a r*pist.

In the finale, Stephen does admit that as parents, he and Nancy failed since they never paid attention to Jonathan's personality’s disturbing aspects. Jonathan’s past actions and Stephen’s present actions have completely wrecked Caetherine’s family. Will he do something to undo it? Disclaimer season 2 might answer that.

Disclaimer season 2 might show the future of Robert and Nicholas

By the end of Disclaimer season 1, Catherine lets Robert know that she will never be able to forgive him because the latter readily believed third-person accounts of the Italy-affair without ever giving his own wife a chance to recount her experience. They divorce.

As for Nicholas, his relationship with his mother has certainly improved. Catherine has established that she is a caring mother and could go to any length to protect her son. Disclaimer season 2 might show how Nicholas’ equation with his mother is a few years down the line. Further, it might be revealed if she and Robert ever reconcile.
