While casual Bridgerton fans may have missed this little odd detail, it did not escape the eye of those more acquainted with the historical drama that Eloise was wearing huge cuffs that did not go with others in the vicinity. Moreover, the series depicted the events at the peak of summer, which made it even more unlikely that she was dressed this way.
There is a funny, but very serious reason for this. As explained by Claudia Jessie, the actress who plays Eloise, the character is spotted wearing thick and large cuffs in the summer days of Regency London to hide her broken wrist. As per reports, Claudia Jessie had broken her wrist during filming, but continued to film, relying on the wardrobe department to conceal this.
She explained the accident on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, which initially seemed funny but ended up costing her wrist. Thankfully, the actress is fine now.
Claudia Jessie explains what happened to her character in Bridgerton season 3
Bridgerton season 3 part 1 featured many new and exciting characters alongside most of the returning stars who have already built a fanbase around the globe. Claudia Jessie is among the latter group, already having shown her expertise in the previous season of the Netflix show.
But something unfortunate happened to the actress this time. Although initially met with some laughter, it soon turned out to be much more serious than most would hope for.
While speaking on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Jessie explained:
"It was a Friday morning, and I got there it was like 8am, we hadn’t even started filming. To celebrate everyone’s good mood, I did a high kick."
However, as she was wearing a very restricting dress, her leg was caught in the dress. She landed hard on her wrist, which is a common reflex of breaking a fall. At first, those around her laughed this off but soon realized Claudia was in pain. The actress remarked that the shock and the pain overtook her at that moment.
As her wrist was broken, she had to be put in a cast. However, the cast would not work well with the period drama setting in the show.
"They didn’t have casts in Regency England...They had to make a muff...It’s the summer muff of course!," Claudia Jessie remarked.
So, this ended up being the huge cuffs that fans can notice on Eloise Bridgerton in the show's third season. This may have been missed by many or simply taken as bad costume design, but it was a serious issue that the costume department managed to mask sufficiently well.
