It seems like the latest season of the hit police procedural series, NCIS, has paved the way for the return of a popular character from the show. With a new spinoff along the way, and Mark Harmon no longer being a part of the show's primary cast, fans believe this is the best time to bring back Pauley Perrette's character, Abby, to the show.

For the uninitiated, Perrete's character, Chief Forensic Scientist for the NCIS Major Case Response Team, Abby Sciuto, was written off on the show in 2018 after 15 years. Although, at the time, it was circulated that the decision to leave NCIS was personal, several outlets reported otherwise.

Most publications claimed that Perrete had a fallout with co-actor Mark Harmon who played NCIS Supervisory Special Agent, Leroy Jethro Gibbs. They also claimed this to be the reason behind her character getting written off the show.

What furthered the claims put forth by these publications was Perrete herself, who put up a series of cryptic posts on X, a week after her onscreen exit. In one such post, the actor wrote:

"I refused to go low, that's why I've never told publicly what happened. But there are tabloid articles out there that are telling total lies about me. If you believe them? Please leave me alone. You clearly don't know me. (Sorry guys, had to be said)."

She added:

"Maybe I'm wrong for not "spilling the beans" Telling the story, THE TRUTH. I feel I have to protect my crew, jobs and so many people. But at what cost? I.don't know. Just know, I'm trying to do the right thing, but maybe silence isn't the right thing about crime. I'm... Just... ?"

She further said:

"There is a "machine' keeping me silent, and feeding FALSE stories about me. A very rich, very powerful publicity "machine". No morals, no obligation to truth, and I'm just left here, reading the lies, trying to protect my crew. Trying to remain calm. He did it."

Why do people think this is the correct time for Pauley Perrette to return as Abby on NCIS?

NCIS fans believe that this is the perfect time for Pauley Perrette to return as the quirky and dedicated Forensic Science expert, Abby Sciuto. With Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo getting their standalone spinoff series in NCIS: Tony & Ziva, the audiences think this is the best moment for Abby to step in.

They believe that the duo would need someone they can trust and rely on after what happened in the parent show. This makes it the perfect opportunity for Abby to return as the pair's reliable friend on the spinoff series.

Additionally, fans also believe that this is the perfect time for Perette to return to the parent show. With Harmon gone from the show's lead cast, Perette's return will be a welcome change for NCIS fans.

Why was Pauley Perrette's character on NCIS written off?

As mentioned previously, until different versions of news concerning the reasons behind Pauley Perrette's character being written off on NCIS started to do the rounds, there was only one version that was circulating. This version stated that Pauley Perrette left the show on her grounds.

However, later reports suggested that her rift with her scene partner Mark Harmon was the main cause behind her exit from the show. Stories circulated which claimed that Perette had a fallout with Harmon because of his dog, who frequented the show's set.

It was revealed that when the dog was brought to the set for the first time, he had severely injured a crew member. Despite that, he continued to bring his dog to the set while the others felt threatened by his presence.

However, no one could muster up the courage to confront him until Perette took matters into her hands.

The rift between the two resulted in them not appearing in scenes together. However, the final nail in the coffin was Perrette's character being written off the show.

In the show, Abby's character is written off by a depiction of her decision to leave NCIS after having a near-death experience. Adding to the reasons for leaving the unit, was also Abby's witnessing of fellow MI6 Agent Clayton Reeves's death which severely traumatized her.
