The Umbrella Academy season 5 looks more like a dream for the fans of the show as it is not likely to witness any new season further. With its first season aired on February 15, 2019, the show gained prominence among the fans of superhero shows that have action, black comedy, and drama, all in one.

Previously, the showrunner Steve Blackman highlighted in regards to why there would be no The Umbrella Academy season 5. The primary reason behind the show wrapping up with season 4 is a creative decision rather than any budget issue, which was recently in the rumors.

The Umbrella Academy is a Netflix original that is based on the comic book series of the same name published between 2007–2009 and 2018–2019. The series created by Steve Blackman and developed by Jeremy Slater features stars like Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, and Colm Feore.

Why The Umbrella Academy season 5 won’t happen?

Steve Blackman who is the showrunner of TUA, has confirmed that the series won’t have The Umbrella Academy season 5, as it was his plans to end the show on its fourth season. As per The Express report in August 2022, Blackman highlighted that he followed what he dreamed of for the series when he started the project.

"I have what I think is an end to the TV show. Netflix may want more than that, but I have a sweet thought of where I think the show should end and where we're going," said Blackman.

Previously, there have been rumors about the show ending and not getting The Umbrella Academy season 5, due to budget issues and varying opinions. But looking at the reason explained by Steve, ending the show with the fourth season is solely a creative decision by the creator of the show.

The fans might have noticed that all the previous seasons had 10 episodes each but this time the makers and Netflix have wrapped up season 4 in just six episodes that vary between 52 minutes to 69 minutes each.

In an interview with Radio Times on August 6, Steve Blackman explained the reason behind the decision to warp up the season with just six episodes. He said:

"We had planned at one point for more episodes, and then we agreed with Netflix to do six. At the time, it seemed like the right amount. I had to do a little bit of compressing because we thought there'd be a bit more material, but it turned out to be a perfect number.”

In the same interview, he also admitted to the fact that they could have done more than six episodes but this ending was something that Steve had always envisioned. He also promised the fans even if the number of episodes is lesser, these will be “six amazing episodes,” and “you’re going to love them.”

On Monday, August 5, 2024, the cast, creators, and fans of the show gathered at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood to celebrate the premiere of season 4. Also to bid goodbye to the series as there will be no The Umbrella Academy season 5.

With the end of the science fantasy superhero drama, the fans as well as the cast of the series were emotional and heartbroken. Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the creator and illustrator of the comics also joined the Egyptian Theatre premiere.
