The first season of Asura was released via Netflix on January 9, 2025, making fans wonder whether Asura season 2 is also on the cards. The Japanese family drama tells the story of an elderly father's affair with a mistress and the way it profoundly impacts the family. Viewers might be wondering whether the series has more of a story to tell for each of the family members.

However, it is likely that Asura season 2 will not be developed. One of the key reasons why fans should not expect another season is that the show did not leave many unresolved plotlines or cliffhangers. Though some of the characters' stories remained open-ended, Asura provided a satisfactory narrative resolution to the family, making it more likely that a second season wouldn't be developed.

Additionally, since the release of the first season, there has been no word on the possibility of Asura season 2 by Netflix either. This move by the media giant is a strong indication that a follow-up season might not be in the cards.

How did season 1 of the show end? Signs that point to the unlikeliness of Asura season 2

In the final episode of the season, Kotaro ended his affair with Tomoko, bringing a close to the main conflict of the show. The two parted ways to ensure that there would be no negative impact on Tomoko's son Shoji while growing up.

However, it was clear that Kotaro forged a new bond, despite the end of the affair. In the final scene, he is seen receiving a call from Shoji, and it can be concluded that Kotaro is unable to stay away from his essentially adoptive son.

The season also brought a satisfying close to many of the sisters' stories, specifically Takiko and Sakiko, as their relationship as sisters evolved. Initially, they were unfriendly because of their opposite personalities. But, the two sisters were brought together when a stranger tried to extort money from Sakiko after having an intimate night with her.

Eventually, Takiko’s protective instincts toward her family came out when Sakiko broke down about the ordeal in front of her.

Finally, Makiko's storyline was shown to be parallel to her own mother's, but with a different ending. She suspected that her husband was cheating on her, but did not stew in the shame and hesitation like her mother did. Makiko took control of the discussion by directly addressing her husband's affairs with him. This ensured that Makiko took charge of her life at last and broke the cycle, which was a win for her.

Given that many of the characters received closure at the end of the season, the storyline points towards the series not moving forward to Asura season 2.
