Joe Rogan's latest Netflix stand-up special Burn the Boats, which premiered on August 3, 2024, is getting online backlash for his remarks on covid-19 vaccine and transgenders.
The popular podcaster and sports presenter held a mic for comedy on stage after almost six years. His comeback has not been well received by many viewers who wrote online about the show being "cringe" and "unfunny".
Joe Rogan already has a negative reputation when it comes to his views on the LGBTQ community and is known for entertaining conspiracy theories on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience.
The controversial comments made by the comedian on his Netflix special are being blasted by social media users on X (formerly Twitter). People seem to hold no bar while sharing their views on Joe Rogan's remarks.
One Twitter user wrote,
"Joe Rogan doesn’t believe in vaccines and still uses Michelle Obama as a transgender talking-point. Hard to believe so many people listen to this clown."
What did Joe Rogan comment on Covid-19 vaccines and transgenders in his Netflix special?
Joe Rogan again made some controversial remarks on Covid-19 vaccines and transgenders, for which he has been in the news before.
The comedian is known for his popular Podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, where he invites scientists, historians, artists, and adventurers from all around the world. He often indulges in conversations regarding popular conspiracy theories such as the aliens building the pyramids or the fake moon landing. He even mentioned the latter in his controversial remarks.
The comedian started by saying that before COVID-19 he believed in the importance of vaccines but not so much post the pandemic. He continued by saying,
"After COVID, I’m like, ‘I don’t think we went to the moon. I think Michelle Obama’s got a di*k. I think Pizzagate is real. I think there’s direct energy weapons in Antarctica.’ I’m just kidding — I don’t think Michelle Obama’s got a di*k, but I believe all of that other shit.”
He was earlier criticized for spreading misinformation about the pandemic on his podcast in 2022 when he made some comments on the COVID-19 vaccine, for which he apologized later that year. But, in Burn the Boats Rogan hit back at the critics saying,
"If you’re getting your vaccine advice from me, is that really my fault?”
In another section of his special, Rogan questioned the general acceptance of people's chosen gender. He said he wanted to "know what happened" implying that he doesn't understand why people just accept this new reality.
"I’m open-minded. I just want to know what happened. It’s almost like a pervert wizard waved a magic spell on the whole world. With a wave of this wand, you can walk into the women’s locker room with a hard di*k and anybody who complains is a Nazi. And everyone just accepts this new reality, and it’s f*cking weird."
How did people react to Joe Rogan's Netflix special?
Rogan's remarks did not sit well with some of the viewers. Many blasted his special through X. People wrote about his controversial comments as well as grilled the comic's content.
X user @RyanShead wrote,
"Imagine having access to some of the smartest people in the world, and you still decide to be an idiot. That’s @joerogan. Neil deGrasse Tyson literally explained some of these things to Joe, yet here he is using his microphone to spread stupidity."
Commenting below his post, another user @fermiparasocks questioned the standard of Rogan's comedy and wrote,
"extremely disturbed by the level of cringe that we accept for comedy."
The comedian is also a fitness enthusiast and martial artist. One user @Bufshuf made comments about Rogan's use of harmful steroids to criticize his comments on the vaccines.
Many other social media users on X (formerly Twitter) grilled the special, while some are also coming forward in support of the special, saying that comments in a comedy show should not be taken seriously.
Burn the Boats is available on Netflix for streaming.
