Despite conversations surrounding the possibility of King of the Hill season 14 being in full swing, the highly anticipated fourteenth installment of the hit show was abruptly canceled by Fox in 2008.

Although the network did not explicitly state the reasons behind the sudden cancellation, audiences speculated that one of the reasons was to make room for other programs. Fox confirmed the audience's deductions by announcing that Seth MacFarlane, known for Family Guy, would be creating a spin-off series titled The Cleveland Show, which would air in King of the Hill's time slot.

Why was King of the Hill season 14 canceled?

It is believed that Fox canceled King of the Hill season 14 in 2008 to allow other shows to take over the show's slot. This became more clear when another show was scheduled to take over the show's slot later on.

Up until then, audiences had been trying to zero in on the exact reason behind the show's cancellation. While some suggested that it was due to the show's tanking viewership, others noted that that wasn't the case as the show had maintained its ratings throughout season 13, despite suffering a setback in seasons 11 and 12.

Did the show have a series finale episode?

After news of season 14's cancellation was made public, on August 6, 2009, former Fox Entertainment chairman Peter Rice and former president of entertainment Kevin Reilly spoke to Variety and revealed their plans for the show.

During the discussion about various projects and shows on the network, Reilly expressed his disinterest in going forward with another season of the show.

As reported by Variety, despite having six episodes of King of the Hill already completed, Reilly stated that there were no plans to air these remaining episodes, including one intended as a potential series finale. He further added that these episodes would be incorporated into the syndicated run of the show.

Following these comments, almost a year later, on September 13, 2009, the series finale episode of the show was released. Four more episodes of the show were again released after almost a year between May 3, 2010, and May 6, 2010, finally putting an end to the show.

Is the show getting revived?

On January 31, 2023, Deadline reported that King of the Hill is being revived by Hulu. The report mentioned that Mike Judge and Greg Daniels would be involved in the show's production. Additionally, the original voice cast, including Judge, Kathy Najimy, Stephen Root, Pamela Adlon, Johnny Hardwick, and Lauren Tom, is set to return.

It was also revealed that the characters in the revived show would be aged to match the time leap that the creators plan on implementing.

All episodes of King of the Hill seasons 1 to 13 are available for viewing on Hulu, Disney Plus, FuboTV, FX Now, Sling TV, and YouTube TV.
