Netflix has unfortunately decided not to go forward with another season of the reality television show, Buying Beverly Hills. The news first broken by Deadline on August 16, 2024, stated that the show's tanking ratings through the seasons in contrast to its cost of production had a huge role in its cancellation.

For the uninitiated, Buying Beverly Hills centred around Mauricio Umansky and his staff at The Agency RE, his luxury real estate allotment located in Beverly Hills, California.

Besides, offering a peek at the real estate broker's lucrative business, the show also offered insights into his relationship with his now ex-wife The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards and their children.

Season 2 of Buying Beverly Hills dedicated a significant portion of its time to exploring the straining relationship between Umansky and Richards ultimately leading to their separation.

Streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu majorly depend on the audience's reception when it comes to the continuation of shows on their platforms. As is usually the case for most of the shows on these services, tanking ratings indicate a step forward towards the cancellation of the show.

The same thing happened in the case of Buying Beverly Hills on Netflix. Deadline reported that Mauricio Umansky-focused reality television show saw a stark decrease in its ratings from season 1 to 2, leading the makers to take the difficult decision of discontinuing it altogether.

Oftentimes, despite low ratings shows are continued, in an attempt to offer the audiences a closure on its developments, but reality shows function differently. Since the content of unscripted reality TV is free-flowing, the need for closure is not as much of a requirement as it is for a scripted television show.

Appearing on an episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna in February this year, Buying Beverly Hills's Kyle Richards opened up about the reasons that led her to break off things with his ex-husband Mauricio Umansky. Detailing on the same she said during the show:

"I think there were certain things that were there that we had kind of been putting on the back burner for a long time. You know, you’re pregnant and you’re breastfeeding. And then it was working and juggling the kids and you kind of forget about it, and then it resurfaces again."

She also added:

“And I think I just kind of came to a, I would say a breaking point, honestly. And I’ve gone through a lot. I lost my best friend, and I think that really does change you and makes you look at things differently.”

Additionally, she also mentioned that the death of her best friend Lorene Shea had a significant impact on her life, leading her to rethink her life's decisions and aspects of it which she was okay with and which she wasn't, especially in her marriage to Umansky.

She also maintained that there was no bad blood between the two and that there was no particular incident that led to their split. She revealed that the two continue to live under the same roof but stay in separate rooms. Their arrangement involves Richards being able to act on her free will in terms of her dating life and Umansky being able to do the same.

While mentioning all of this, Richards also highlighted that when it comes to important aspects of their life, including their children, they like to do things like a family and not like a couple who have recently been separated, leading to a division in the family unit.
