Apple TV's Bad Sisters brought two seasons of dark comedy and mystery following the lives of the five Garvey sisters. It takes the premise of the Belgian show Clan but brings an Irish flair to the mix. Series creator Sharon Horgan also stars as the oldest of the Garveys, Eva, alongside Anne-Marie Duff as Grace, Eve Henson as Becka, Eva Birthistle as Ursula, and Sarah Greene as Bibi.

Bad Sisters follows the five incredibly close but fed-up siblings as they try to plot the demise of their sister Grace's abusive husband, John Paul. One of the sisters, Bibi Garvey, is one of the distinctive characters in their group, and she has an eyepatch. A question those watching the series raise is why she's wearing one, which Bad Sisters season 1 episode 5 answered.

Bibi has a damaged right eye after a car accident with John Paul, leaving her needing to wear an eye accessory. That said, the series didn't explicitly confirm what thing damaged her eye during the crash.

What happened to Bibi Garvey's eye that requires her to wear an eyepatch in Bad Sisters?

Bibi Garvey dons an eye patch in Bad Sisters to cover her damaged right eye. For the unversed, she had a car accident while with her sister Grace Garvey's husband, John Paul, and it left her with no vision in her right eye.

Season 1 episode 5 of the series, gave the backstory of Bibi's eyepatch in a flashback. Bibi was in a car with JP, driving on a rainy night. JP picked her up, and she thanked him for the favor, but soon after, Bibi's mood changed into panic. JP was starting to drive fast and dangerously, a deliberate thing on his part to taunt Bibi. He knew that she had some trauma about it because it was how the Garveys lost both their parents.

JP's dangerous driving brought back trauma for Bibi, so she repeatedly asked him to slow down. At one point, she panicked and tried to take the steering wheel from JP, and that move caused the car to crash.

That said, Bad Sisters season 1 episode 5 didn't show or provide any context as to what part of the accident caused the severe damage in Bibi's right eye. Moreover, part of the flashback in episode 5 of the series's first season was a repeated focus on the Virgin Mary statue on the car's dashboard. One theory is that during the crash, the statue lodged into Bibi's right eye, leaving it severely damaged.

Bibi Garvey actress Sarah Greene, says the biggest challenge in her character was wearing the eyepatch

Irish actress Sarah Greene, who plays Bibi Garvey in the Apple TV dark comedy series, previously said that wearing the eyepatch was one of the most difficult challenges of playing the role. She said during the show's London premiere via Express UK in August 2022:

"For me, the biggest challenge was wearing an eyepatch. I'd never won an eyepatch before. My sister, actually, when she was a kid she had to wear one. And I never realized how difficult that was. I got used to it, but my biggest challenge was that, was walking around."

During the interview, Greene also revealed that she had a "really bad knee" afterward because she was overcompensating with the eyepatch on.

Outside of the series, Sarah Greene has worked in several films like Rosie, The Guard, In the Land of Saints and Sinners, and Noble. She also has acting credits in TV shows Normal People, Dublin Murders, and Frank of Ireland.
