SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 10 aired on Paramount+ on Sunday, October 6, bringing a worthy and gripping end to the military show. Even before the seventh season started, both its star, Jason Boreanaz, and the production confirmed that it will be the show's finale, with no plans for a Season 8.

The show follows an elite unit of SEALs, the Bravo Team, who goes on the most dangerous and high-stakes missions on air, land and sea around the globe at a moment's notice.

It has been going on for seven seasons and has survived a network change from CBS to Paramount+ to become one of the few shows to bridge the gap between networks and streamers.

That's why it's not a surprise that some fans want more of the military drama. Moreover, after a successful mission and a side trip in the season finale, there are still a few more stories to explore that make a Season 8 essential, like Omar finally reuniting with his son or more of Drew's backstory.

SEAL Team Season 8: Exploring reasons why an eighth season makes sense

Untapped backstories for the rest of the Bravo Team

The SEAL Team finale has given a lot of the Bravo Team members an uplifting ending, but a lot can be said or done for some of the other members of the elite military team.

For instance, Drew's backstory could use a little more spotlight. As he first joined Bravo in the Season 7 premiere, the show has teased a much deeper story regarding his background and family with all the secrecy of his sister and the reporter following him. However, only his background in the Echo Team was revealed.

Another Bravo Team member that could use more runtime is Omar. He has become a noteworthy character in the second half of Season 7, as he was poised to become Bravo 2 after Ray's retirement. He revealed being estranged from his son in Episode 8, and a journey as he tries to reconnect with his son would be a wonderful plot to explore if there is an eighth season.

Popularity and fan engagement

Despite a move from CBS Network to streaming via Paramount+ in 2021, SEAL Team survived and added a few more seasons, so it's safe to say that the show has found a loyal following. Moreover, the show made it into Paramount+'s year-end list as the most-watched drama series the year it arrived on the platform.

If there's one key reason for Season 8 to get a green light, it would be because of its popularity among the viewers, which the military show appears to have. SEAL Team has an 85% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.8 score on IMDb. It's the number 70 most popular TV show on IMDb, with its popularity rating going up by 12.

Moreover, the Season 7 double-episode premiere made it into Nielsen's US ranking for streaming originals for the viewing week of August 12. It reached the number 9 spot after racking up 309 million minutes of views across 107 available episodes.

SEAL Team series finale opens for more

The final scenes in the season finale leave the door open for more to explore in a possible eighth season, especially for Jason Hayes.

David Boreanaz mentioned that Season 7 will be the last that fans see him playing Master Chief Hayes. Moreover, Hayes' storyline throughout the seventh season teases an ending between him and the SEALs, whether it's a retirement or death. However, neither happened in Episode 10. Hayes is back in the chopper and what looks like active duty before the episode and the show closed.

Moreover, there are a lot of new storylines to explore as the Bravo Team members embark on new journeys and a few cliffhangers that could be answered if there's a Season 8. What's next for Ray being the Head of Warfighter Health at DEVGRU or Lisa in her promotion could be worthy subjects that a new season could explore.

Lisa and Sonny's relationship, as well as Sonny's future outside of the Navy, could make an exciting plot, especially with Sonny's initial fear of losing his trident.

All seven seasons of SEAL Team are now streaming via Paramount+.
