The Boys season 4 only consists of 8 episodes and season 5 is currently in development
Just like every other outing of the show, The Boys season 4 only consisted of eight episodes. It depicted the titular group' struggle as they tried to defeat Homelander and the Seven.
However, those who are currently anticipating episode 9 will be pleased to learn that season 5 is currently in development at Amazon Prime Video which will further continue the story. It is slated to come out in 2026 which would stick to the 2-year release format of the show.

What happened in The Boys season 4 finale?
The Boys season 4 finale opened with Hughie getting engaged with the fake Annie while the MM, Frenchie, and Kimiko tried to ensure that Bob Singer was safe. At the same time, Butcher was in the hospital with Grace Mallory bringing Ryan to meet him so that he could convince him to go with her. On the other hand, Homelander also revealed to the world that Victoria Neuman was a supe.
This caused Homelander to order The Seven to kill anyone who would have any kind of damaging information on them. He asked The Deep to even kill Ashley, but then she rushed into Homelander's room and shot herself up with Compound V with her fate being left up in the air. Meanwhile, Butcher tried reasoning with Ryan to go with Mallory.
However, Ryan wasn't receptive to the idea. Butcher finally revealed to him that the reason he existed was because his mom was s*xually assaulted by Homelander. This caused Ryan to go into a fit of rage and he accidentally killed Mallory. A regretful Butcher then walked over to Mallory's body as Ryan went away and asked Kessler to take over him.
While trying to save Bob Singer, Hughie realized that Annie, who was present there, was actually the shapeshifter. A fight then ensued as the shapeshifter attempted to kill Singer. That's when the real Annie came in and saved the day by killing her doppelganger.
Now out of options, Neuman ended up calling Hughie. Relying on him for help in exchange for information, they set up a meeting. However, that meeting was cut short as Butcher arrived and used his new superpowers to kill Neuman while taking the supe-killing virus with him as well. The news of Victoria Neuman's death spread across the nation.
While Homelander thought that his plan had been ruined, Sage revealed that everything went as he wanted. Steven Calhoun then became president and pledged his loyalty to Homelander. With Homelander being deputized, martial law was put into effect as the rest of The Boys started getting rounded up.
The season ended with a mid-credits scene that showcased Homelander discovering a captive Soldier Boy, teasing his appearance for season 5.
Fans can currently watch the entirety of The Boys season 4 on Amazon Prime Video.
