The Sticky season 2, the second chapter of the dark comedy series, promises to raise the stakes even higher as the criminal trio tries to escape capture after committing the multi-million dollar maple syrup heist. With the widespread positive response received for the first season, the show is set to continue thrilling fans with its next installment.

The Sticky, created by Brian Donovan and Ed Herro, premiered its first season on December 6, 2024, on Prime Video. The series is set in Canada and inspired by the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist of the early 2010s. It is directed by Michael Dowse and Joyce Wong and produced by Jason Blum, Jamie Lee Curtis, Gillian Bohrer, and Chris Dickie among others.

The show's official synopsis, as per Rotten Tomatoes, reads:

"Ruth Landry, a syrup farmer, turns to crime when the bureaucratic authorities threaten to take away everything she loves; she teams up with a Bostonian mobster and a French-Canadian security guard for a heist on Quebec's maple syrup surplus."

When will The Sticky season 2 be renewed?

The streaming platform Prime Video has not made any official announcements regarding The Sticky season 2, as of this writing. The comedy-drama series has scored an impressive 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes in less than a week after its premiere. Typically, the streaming service considers a show's performance over a minimum of 30 days before deciding to renew the series.

Thus, it is too soon to predict if the series will be renewed for another season.

On December 9, 2024, the show's co-creator, Ed Herro, confirmed to Collider that he had envisioned The Sticky as a multi-season series from the beginning:

"We have five seasons planned out. The original crime was very boring — they slowly, quietly snuck syrup out, then they got caught eventually, and they went to jail. That is not good TV. So, we planned five seasons of these three characters growing, fighting, falling apart, and building themselves back up again over this one large heist as the centerpiece."

What are the potential storylines for The Sticky Season 2?

The Sticky saw the motley crew of Ruth, Mike, and Remy successfully steal $8 million worth of maple syrup from the Association’s warehouse by the end of the season. Thus, season 2 is set up to explore the aftermath of the heist and its implications on the trio's loved ones.

In the same Collider interview, co-creator Brian Donovan said he wanted to explore the characters' backstories in depth over the next couple of seasons:

"A lot of these characters have known each other for decades, and that's something that we didn't get a chance to explore fully in the first season of the show — some of that backstory, how they got to where they are, and how that relationship will evolve with everybody involved going forward."

He continued:

"So, there's so much there that we're dying to explore. There are seasons of these characters, and we want to see how crime takes them and changes them. Remy’s the sweetest guy on earth, and how does the crime affect him? These are all things that we're just dying to explore."

Since the story is based on the real maple syrup heist, in which the perpetrators were arrested, the same fate can await Ruth, Mike, and Remy in The Sticky Season 2.

Other plotlines that can be explored in the next season include Bo Shea hunting down the trio to exact revenge for almost killing her. Also, her seeming connection with Ruth's husband, Martin, can be explored in the show's second installment. Lastly, Maurice's fate remains to be seen in The Sticky Season 2 after he was falsely implicated in Steek's murder by Mike.
