Given how the previous installment ended, the anticipation for Smiling Friends season 2, episode 9, is at an all-time high. Given the amount of positive reception Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel’s series has garnered, fans are left wanting more and can’t wait to see what comes next for Pim, Charlie, Allen, Mr. Boss, and Glep.

The latest episode of Smiling Friends Season 2 was titled Pim Finally Turns Green. However, after the release of the episode, it came to light that neither the title nor the synopsis by Adult Swim about Pim turning green after eating an ancient artifact was true.

Unfortunately for fans of the series, episode 8 was the final installment of the second season, which means there won’t be a Smiling Friends episode this coming Sunday. However, fans will be relieved to learn that the series has been renewed for a third season, so they can look forward to more of the absurd comedy in the future.

As the sequel was also slated for an 8-episode run, similar to season 1, Smiling Friends season 2 episode 9 was never in the cards. Smiling Friends season 3 was announced during the Annecy Film Festival 2024, where the president of Adult Swim unveiled that the creators were already working on the next season while season 2 was still on the run.

Although it’s saddening that there won’t be Smiling Friends season 2 episode 9 next week, it’s reassuring to know that a third season has been commissioned, bringing the promise of more absurd and bizarre adventures. As of now, the release date for season 3 is yet to be revealed.

The episode was all about Charlie, Glep, and Allen building a weirdly shaped snowman out of garbage. They later named the snowman “Rotten” (voiced by Dana Snyder), who eventually comes to life after Pim ornates it with a flower that was infused with nuclear waste.

Everything was going well with Rotten experiencing the beauty of life until Pim inadvertently told him about death. Pim wanted Rotten to stay away from hot places for his own safety, but the idea of dying gave him an existential crisis. Charlie invited Bill Nye to calm down Rotten.

However, what began as an insightful song about life and death ended up being a tragedy. Bill Nye, who initially arrived on a hot air balloon, died after it got near the power lines.

Charlie and Pim had to leave Rotten near the snowy mountain due to his constant screaming. However, a yeti who lived nearby dropped Rotten back at the Smiling Friends office and gave everyone a warning. Pim had an idea to preserve Rotten’s life in the refrigerator, but the latter still wasn’t happy with his life.

After six months, Pim and others took Rotten to the beach in a cooler, so he wouldn’t melt away. However, due to an accident, Rotten was knocked over the cooler. Later, the Smiling Friends rejoiced to see that Rotten had transformed into an ocean wave and he started devouring everything on his way and started moving towards Pim and others near the beach.
