Will Trent season 3 episode 2 was released via the ABC Channel on January 14, 2025. The episode, titled "Sunny Side Up", revolved around Will and his attempt to rescue his old friend Rafael's daughter Sunny from an abduction. Sunny was being used against Rafel as blackmail bait to make him confess to crimes he did not commit, which is why Will got involved in the case.

What was the plot for Will Trent season 3 episode 2?
At the beginning of the episode, Will Trent and Faith Mitchell rushed to get to the aid of Rafael's daughter Sunny but found out that the girl's caretaker had been murdered. They found a camera under the bed, realizing that Sunny was recording a video for school when a man abducted her.

The two detectives noticed the man's face in the mirror and realized it was Lincoln Spelling.
However, when the detectives paid a visit to a medical examiner's lab, a body came in and was identified as Lincoln Spelling. They realized that only someone with power and a police badge would be able to pull off this level of kidnapping and try to get out of it scot-free.

How did the team get a lead on the person responsible for the kidnapping?
During the episode, Ormewood interrogated a woman named Dolores who provided some information about a ring of car thieves who could also be linked to the murders of the cops in episode 1. She revealed that a man named Mack was the ringleader, and conducted his business via deposits in Battery Hill Investments.
Using Dolores, the cops set up an ambush to trap Mack. They found a gun in his backpack, which was immediately linked to the one that killed the two APD officers. Mack told the team that he shot the two APD cops on Lincoln’s orders, but Lincoln was getting his own orders from a cop.
Mack described him as someone with a shaved head and a scar, but did not know the roge cop's name. However, this gave the team a real lead to work with going ahead.

How did Will locate and rescue Sunny in Will Trent season 3 episode 2?
While speaking to Rafael, he informed Will and Amanda that he played a game with his daughter that they could use to locate her. He could message Sunny through the game on the phone and she could respond. They triangulated on Sunny's location but came face-to-face with her captor before they could rescue her.
In the skirmish that followed, it was revealed that the kidnapper was actually Captain Norton Cromwell, a member of the police force itself, as suspected. Cromwell drove away with Sunny in his car, forcing Will and Amanda to chase him.
Sunny chose a moment near a mall to make a run for it and, luckily, the team reached there in time and saved her while also apprehending Cromwell.

What happened to Captain Cromwell at the end of Will Trent season 3 episode 2?
Will facilitated the reunion of Rafael and Sunny at the GBI headquarters. Will also suggested to Rafael that, because of his dangerous career and his involvement with gangs, Sunny should stay with Amanda for a while to ensure the girl's safety.
After this, Faith assumed that Will would return to Tennessee, now that the case was in hand.
The cops then gathered to watch the news coverage that was showing a live feed of Captain Cromwell being brought into prison. However, Cromwell was suddenly shot in the head, killing him instantly.
In a later conversation with Rafael at his home, Will revealed that the department caught the person who shot Cromwell. Will also informed his old friend that he knew that the person apprehended was one of Rafael's gang members.
He warned his old friend to steer clear of the situation, and also emphasised that he would remain in Atlanta till the case was fully solved.
