The father-son duo of Rob Lowe and John Owen Lowe is back on Netflix with Unstable season 2. The first season of the workplace comedy television series was well received by both audiences and critics, which led to the series' renewal on November 16, 2024.
Unstable season 2 will be released on August 1, 2024. The season is likely to continue the struggle of the socially awkward Jackson Dragon, as he tries to work with his eccentric father Ellis Dragon at a high-tech facility of bio-research.
The show is created by Rob and John Owen Lowe, along with Victor Fresco, and features an ensemble cast including Racheal Marsh, Emma Ferreira, Aaron Branch, and Sian Clifford, along with the father-son duo.
Unstable season 2 will premiere on August 1
Netflix has confirmed that Unstable season 2 will be released on the streaming platform on August 1, 2024. A minute-long official announcement video was launched on May 6, 2024. Two months later, the official trailer for the season was released on July 8, 2024.
Unstable follows Jackson Dragon, played by John Owen Lowe, a shy and awkward young man, who decides to work with his narcissistic and eccentric father Ellis Dragon, played by Rob Lowe. Ellis is a genius CEO of a biotech company who is spiraling at his work due to the recent death of his wife. Rob and Ellis are distant, yet try to work their way for the betterment of the company.
The show was praised for its writing, humor, and performances. However, despite the success of the first season, it was rumored in early 2023 that the production of Unstable season 2 was shut down due to the writers' strike.
All the rumors and speculations were put to rest on November 16, 2023, when the streaming platform officially renewed Unstable for another season.

What to expect from Unstable season 2?
The announcement video released by Netflix showed a visibly distressed Ellis Dragon behind bars, waiting and preparing to serve a prison term. This intrigued fans to find out where the series is heading.
From the official trailer, it seems like fans can expect lots of quirky humor and wacky punchlines that made the first season successful. A few new characters are also expected to enter the Dragon Kingdom, most notably Iris Apatow and Lamorne Morris. Apatow, the younger daughter of writer-director Judd Apatow and actress Leslie Mann, will portray an unwilling Dragon intern Georgia.
The official synopsis of the upcoming season reads:
"In season two of Unstable, universally admired, eccentric, narcissist-adjacent biotech entrepreneur Ellis Dragon (Rob Lowe) lays out a series of challenges and mind games for his son Jackson (John Owen Lowe) to see if he has what it takes to succeed him as the heir to the Dragon empire, but does a newcomer have other ideas?"
Last season, the Dragon duo worked together to save their bio-tech company. This time the show is expected to deep-dive into the intricacies of the inner workings of the company as well as the changed dynamic between Jackson and Ellis.
