Women in Blue is an Apple TV+ original series about Mexico's first police force. The show follows Maria, Valentina, Gabina, and Angeles as they join the force and face the reality that they're seen as PR showpieces.
Meanwhile, a serial killer, named Tlapan Undresser by the press, is targeting women, enraging the female population. The first two episodes, which aired on July 31, 2024, focus on women's entry into the police force and the challenges they face.
Episode 2 ends with a mentally ill man named Tito Flores arrested for the murder of Paola, one of the Undresser's victims. Maria isn't convinced the police have the right guy, but her concerns are dismissed by the men on the force.
Read ahead to find out the key plot developments from the first two episodes of Women in Blue.
Episodes 1 & 2 of Women in Blue show the Undresser claim another victim
At the end of episode 1 of Women in Blue, Maria, Valentina, Gabina, and Angeles graduate from the training academy and receive their uniforms. The episode also hints at the Tlapan Undresser targeting his next victim, as a woman named Paola gets into a white car with a man and disappears.
In episode 2, Paola is confirmed murdered, and a mentally ill man named Tito Flores is scapegoated as the Undresser due to his fingerprints being found on her body. Maria doubts Tito's guilt, but her concerns are ignored for PR reasons. Instead, she is tasked with informing Paola's sister, Jessica, about the death, a job the men consider unimportant.
When interrogating Jessica, Maria learns that she met a man driving a fancy car, which couldn't have belonged to Tito, as he was an underprivileged man.
Despite being warned by Octavio Ramanda, her superior on the force, against going maverick by questioning Jessica, the episode strongly implies that Maria's rogue investigation is just beginning.
Maria is the one to discover Paola's body
Once Maria, Valentina, Gabina, and Angeles finish their training at the end of episode 1 of Women in Blue and get their blue uniforms, they face a rude awakening in episode 2.
To Valentina's outrage, it turns out that their real job on the police force is to be a PR tool while the "real" police officers do actual detective and law enforcement work.
Angeles is so upset by her treatment that she ignores a boy reporting a missing dog. Maria steps in to help and finds the boy's body. Gabina's brother, who opposed her joining the force, arrives to investigate. This incident makes Maria, Valentina, Gabina, and Angeles realize the serious and dangerous nature of police work.
Gabina is disgraced by her family for joining the police
The first two episodes of Women in Blue also explore the personal struggles caused by sexism in Mexican society, particularly through Gabina's story. Gabina's father has not spoken to her since she signed up for the police force, and her brother refuses to help her mend things. Their relationship comes to a head when higher-up Emilio Escobedo wants to take a photo of Gabina with her father.
Gabina is resistant to this idea, fearing her father won't take the idea well, but Emilio convinces him to take the picture by asking him directly. Once the photoshoot is over, however, Gabina's father reveals his true disdain for his daughter by slapping her in the face and condemning her as a disgrace.
Women in Blue pulls no punches in its opening episodes. With the four protagonists getting a harsh reality check by the end of episode 2, it becomes apparent that society still considers them to be nobodies compared to men.
But as Maria's arc shows, the women are not afraid of rebelling against the limitations put upon them. Women in Blue is streaming on Apple TV+.
