American late-night satirical news television program The Daily Show recently announced changes in its RNC (Republican National Convention) coverage amidst the latest occurrence of an alleged assassination attempt on Donald Trump. While the alleged assassination attempt took place on July 14, 2024, The Daily Show took to X the next day to inform its fans about RNC coverage changes.

As per the tweet, the show's RNC coverage would air from its base in New York City, and that host Jon Stewart's July 15, episode wouldn't air. However, the news program will continue its regular airing schedule from July 16, 2024.

Originally, the host of the satirical news program, Jon Stewart was supposed to cover the RNC from Milwaukee in pursuance of the program's Indecision 2024 coverage. However, canceling the on-ground coverage, The Daily Show's tweet stated:

"Our apologies for the inconvenience, but due to logistical issues and the evolving situation in Milwaukee, we need to reschedule our events on the ground in Wisconsin and will look to make those up in the coming weeks,"

Since Jon Stewart is known for making bold, satirical remarks on most politicians and political events, the internet expressed shock at The Daily Show canceling RNC coverage. Taking to X, one of the fans questioned:

"You scared Jon?"
"@jonstewart sucks anyway so not a loss!" an X user took a jibe at program host Jon Stewart.
"Anyone see @jonstewart or his people roaming the hallways, feel free to give him a piece of your mind." another X user tweeted.
"Oh no!! Now we don’t get to hear Jon both sides this situation??" an X user remarked sarcastically.

Several internet users believe The Daily Show altered its on-ground RNC coverage because the material they must've written on Trump was to make fun of him and that they could not air that after the alleged assassination attempt:

"Translation....Trump surviving the assassination attempt makes it basically impossible to make fun of him now so we're just going to lick our wounds and sit this election out," an X user tweeted.
"Because the plan was to talk trash and that wouldn’t look good," another X user tweeted.
"Jon Stewart had to cancel his show tomorrow night for the start of the RNC in light of the assassination attempt because I guarantee all of their written material was the usual incitement, "Trump is a would-be dictator who will literally end democracy!" an X user stated.

The Daily Show's original RNC coverage plan for Indecision 2024 explored

In April 2024, The Daily Show announced its plans to cover the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention via Indecision 2024 wherein Jon Stewart was set to hit the road and cover the presidential election.

Indecision 2024 is a continuance of the news program special election coverage since 2000 and the program was set to cover the RNC from Milwaukee through July 15-18, 2024 which now stands canceled.

However, there is no update on the changes to the DNC coverage in Chicago set to take place from August 19-22, 2024, and covered by Stephen Colbert.

Moreover, fan speculations of The Daily Show canceling its RNC coverage due to Jon Stewart's remarks on the presidential candidates are supported by his take on the presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump on June 27, 2024.

In his candid take on the debate, Jon Stewart commented on how both candidates must use performance-enhancing drugs to improve their lucidity and ability to solve problems. Supposedly taking a dig at Trump, Joe Stewart commented:

"And, in one of the candidate’s cases, improve their truthfulness, morality and malignant narcissism, then suppository away.”

Host of the satirical news program, Jon Stewart had hosted the show for 16 years before he stepped down in 2015 and was replaced by comedian Trevor Noah.

While Trevor Noah left the show in 2022, Stewart made a comeback to The Daily Show in February 2024 to cover the 2024 presidential election. Additionally, he also serves as an executive producer of the show.
