Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was all set to arrive on Disney+, starting November 1, 2024. However, the show has been delayed until January 29, 2025, as per recent reports by several media houses.
Created by Jeff Trammell and produced collectively by Kevin Feige, Jeff Trammell, and Brad Winderbaum, the show will star Hudson Thames, Hugh Dancy, and Charlie Cox among others.
Initially, this animated series was supposed to be titled Spider-Man Freshman Year, however, the showrunners later changed the name to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
Is Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man a part of the MCU?
This animated series will be set in an alternate timeline to the current Spider-Man in the MCU played by Tom Holland. This animated series adds to the MCU’s ever-growing multiverse.
This series will be highly inspired by the early comic book versions of Peter Parker, in his first year of being Spider-man. Executive Producer and Studio Head Kevin Feige also promised fans at the D23 2024 panel that the animation and the essence of the series, are highly inspired by the original version of the character created by Stan-Lee and Steve Ditko.
Reprising his role as Spider-Man from Marvel Studios' WHAT IF? (2021), Hudson Thames will be voicing Peter Parker in the alternate universe created in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
What to expect from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man?
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was announced back in 2022's San Diego Comic-Con. The show will focus on Peter Parker’s journey of becoming Spider-Man while tackling his personal life. It will also focus on the complexities of leading a life with two identities.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be an ode to Stan-Lee and Steve Ditko’s work with the character of Spiderman over the years. Marvel fans can anticipate this animated show to be both fresh and nostalgic.
A striking factor in every MCU-produced film/show is a great ensemble cast. Through sources like IMDB, it has already been confirmed that Charlie Cox, will return to voice Matt Murdock aka Daredevil, and Vincent D’Onofrio will be voicing the Kingpin in this upcoming Spiderman animated series.
Earlier this year, Jeff Trammell also talked about this show in The Official Marvel Podcast and revealed that:
"You know, I want to give a cliche, 'Expect the unexpected' answer but, honestly, I think you can expect Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. He's hanging around New York; it's not a huge intergalactic adventure."
He further added:
"It's him at his roots and there are a lot of things we, as a fanbase, take at first glance and are like, 'Oh yeah, I know this part of the story.' That's been really fun to dig into: 'Maybe you don't know everything.' There are some surprises in there and I'm really excited to dig into those. It was really fun to subvert those expectations when they've been built up for so long."
During the podcast, Tramell also discussed the different MCU characters who will feature in the show. He stated that the show will not just have characters specific to Spider-Man's universe, but rather there will be a "cross-pollination" of characters from the Marvel universe. Fans can expect to see classic characters from the comics such as Pearl Pangan, Lonnie Lincoln, Amadeus Cho, and Jeanne Foucault.
