Twitch streamer Kai Cenat has tackled both Elden Ring and the title's DLC, 'Shadow of The Erdtree', in a series of chaotic, grueling, and hilarious live streams. Known for his marathon streams, including the month-long "Mafiathon" in February 2023, Cenat established himself as a streamer capable of maintaining viewer engagement over long periods, and on May 10th, 2024, he began his Elden Ring journey.

Starting with the base game, Kai completed Elden Ring in just under 167 hours, and almost a week of grinding led him to slay the 'Elden Beast' on May 17th. Post this, the streamer started the DLC expansion of the game on June 21st, this time finishing the game in about 99 hours.

These marathons have always been hyped up as big events on Kai's channel and introduced through grand trailers with movie-like production.

Exploring Kai Cenat's journey in Elden Ring

Cenat’s decision to take on Elden Ring, a game renowned for its difficulty, was met with both excitement and skepticism from his fans. Kai had never played a game as intense as Elden Ring before and with minimal experience in the “soulslike” genre, he was stepping into unfamiliar territory.

However, this challenge only fueled the anticipation, as viewers were eager to see how he would fare against the game's notoriously tough bosses.

Speaking of bosses, Kai seemed to find them incredibly challenging, the streamer died 1,701 times during his time in the game, and at one point, over 230,000 concurrent viewers were watching Kai die repeatedly.

One of the most memorable moments of the marathon was Cenat's battle with Malenia, widely regarded as Elden Ring's most challenging boss. After 400 deaths and hours of relentless attempts, Cenat finally beat the 'Goddess of Rot' a victory that was celebrated not just by him but by his entire community.

Viewer Engagement and Success Metrics

The success of Cenat's Elden Ring marathon wasn't just measured in terms of viewership but also the level of engagement from his audience. Throughout the event, the stream amassed 13.3 million hours watched, with viewers contributing nearly 4.5 million chat messages. The stream had about 91,000 average live viewers, even attracting celebrities like Travis Scott to Kai's channel.

Kick streamer Adin Ross also wagered $100,000 on Kai not beating a boss named Godfrey on the first try, but the streamer triumphed, winning the money.

In the end, Kai became emotional while addressing his audience upon finishing the base game.

Kai Cenat's second encounter with Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Kai Cenat started his second Elden Ring marathon with confidence and in cosplay. His first adventure with the base game seemed to have gotten to his head a little, but the streamer was quickly humbled, accumulating over 40 deaths on the first major boss, Divine Beast Dancing Lion.

The streamer experienced 1,070 deaths during his marathon playthrough and at its peak, the stream attracted over 240,000 concurrent viewers, a new record for Cenat.

Among the 99 hours of gameplay, Kai spent 70 fighting Radahn, the DLC's final boss. He had a mental breakdown fighting the last boss, and he had to hire a therapist to help him get through it.
