Kick streamer Jack Doherty has been under fire online recently for the controversial car crash that took place during one of his broadcasts. The accident involved Doherty's brand-new McLaren 2024, which cost the content creator over $200,000, as per one of his YouTube videos. Moreover, the streamer's behavior before and following the crash has invited criticism from major personalities online, including 100 Thieves CEO Matthew "Nadeshot". The former professional Call of Duty player even suggested that Doherty deserves "jail time" and should be "demonetized from every platform".
This article covers the series of events surrounding the crash, which eventually led to Jack Doherty being banned permanently from Kick.
Jack Doherty's controversial McLaren car crash explored
The crash happened while Jack Doherty had been streaming on Kick on October 6, 2024. The twenty-year-old streamer had been riding his car while it was raining heavily outside, with a cameraperson, Michael, filming him while sitting in the passenger seat.
While the original livestream has been lost along with Doherty's now-banned Kick channel, a clip uploaded by @FearedBuck on X showcases the Kick streamer being distracted by a phone while steering the car using only one hand. This was soon followed by him losing control of his vehicle and crashing it into the guardrails present on the roadside.
Subsequently, other clips emerged of the moments immediately following the crash, which invited further criticism aimed at Doherty. One clip showcases Doherty being rescued from the car through the windows by bystanders. Pleading for help from the individuals, he exclaims:
"Help! Help! Help! Break the f**king window! Help. Oh, f**k, can you hold this? (Referring to his camera)"
Right after making his way outside the car, Doherty can be seen immediately focusing on the damage endured by his vehicle:
"My f**king car, bro. F**k, dude. My f**king car! Holy sh**, no! Are you f**king kidding me, bro? No!"
When he finally comes around to check on Michael, who is being rescued, Doherty discovers the cameraperson to be injured and bleeding from the side of his head. Eventually, the streamer uploaded a video from the hospital showing Michael receiving stitches for his injuries.
Since then, he has been facing heat from netizens as well as popular internet personalities like Corinna Kopf, who stated that Doherty had decided to ensure his cameraman "stays filming from all angles" despite his injured state.
Kick streamer Adin Ross recently stated that Jack Doherty would need to pay him $300,000 to get him unbanned from the platform. While the initial offer was $200,000, it was soon increased to the current amount with another condition being that the sum should be paid in "cash".
