Kyedae Alicia Shymko or simply "Kyedae" is one of the most popular female Twitch streamers currently on the website. At the time of writing, she has over 2.9 million followers on the Amazon-owned streaming platform (which makes her the ninth biggest female streamer on the website).

She initially earned her name through her livestreams, particularly her Valorant gameplay, and through her association with the 100 Thieves (ex-member) gaming organization. However, she also received a lot of attention when she announced (March 2023) that she had cancer.

This story will look to share the timeline of events of Kyedae's health as well as give an update on it.

March 3, 2023: Twitch streamer Kyedae reveals having cancer

The Valorant and Twitch communities were deeply saddened when Kyedae announced on March 3, 2023, that she had been battling cancer. She took to her X account to reveal that she had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

"I’ve recently been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (cancer). I’ll be starting up treatment very soon. With that being said I’m not too sure how my body will react to the treatment so I do apologize in advance if my stream schedule isn’t consistent!"

March 6, 2023: Kyedae's first stream since announcing having cancer

Kyedae's first stream since announcing her leukemia (cancer) diagnosis was on March 6, 2023, during which she explained that she was about to start chemotherapy very soon.

"I start chemotherapy very soon. So I hope I don't die (Kyedae laughs). I'm sorry, I'm so bad at this. When I found out that I had cancer, too, I actually, I just, like laughed."

She also revealed that she didn't share the news with her boyfriend (now fiancé), Tyson "TenZ," because he had a Valorant competition, and she wanted him to be able to focus on it.

"So I found about my cancer probably about two-and-a-half weeks ago. So it's been pretty recent. But I didn't... tell anyone actually. Not even my mom or my dad, or Tyson, until after his tournament."

March 30, 2023: Kyedae reveals not being able to "eat properly"

Kyedae's stream on March 30 (the VOD of the stream is not available right now) was quite personal, as she revealed that she was unable to eat properly. She even made the distressing statement that she felt like she was dying.

"I haven't been able to really eat properly, or well, for the longest time, either. It's, like, difficult. It sucks! F**king sucks! I can, like, feel myself dying."

She also revealed that she was suffering from mental health issues:

"I think I have severe mental illness, if I'm super sad and... I want to play Valorant. What the f**k (streamer starts laughing). I'm not going to give up! I'm not going to! Like, I'm just not having a great day today."

March 12, 2023: The Streamer Award controversy

Despite receiving an overwhelmingly positive response after announcing her cancer diagnosis, the streamer was embroiled in controversy when she won the Valorant Streamer of the Year at The Streamer Awards 2023.

Some netizens controversially claimed that she only received the award because she had been battling cancer. On the same day, she responded that she had dreaded this reaction would come up.

"The moment I won, I felt more dread than anything because I knew the hate I’d get."

September 28, 2023: Kyedae reveals her hair had started to grow back

Six months after announcing her cancer diagnosis and the start of chemotherapy, Kyedae revealed (VOD not available) that she had been off chemotherapy for a while and that her hair had started to grow back.

"'Your hair is growing back.' Wait, can you see it? Yeah! So... I am officially off chemotherapy now."

However, she also stated that this does not mean she is cancer-free:

"It does not mean that I'm cancer-free. That is one misconception because I did tell some of my friends and stuff. And, they were like, 'Oh, my god! No more cancer?' No, that's not it. But, it is the step in the right direction."

June 20, 2024: Controversy involving Kick

Back in June 2023, a former Kick employee made allegations about the company's toxic workplace. Among these allegations was the claim that Kyedae (though not named directly) received a lowball offer from Kick because she was battling cancer and they assumed she would take the money.

While Felix "xQc" initially denied that any such thing had happened, Kyedae revealed that she had indeed received an offer but had refused to accept it.

"People were asking me about it, but it’s whatever. I got an offer from Kick, and I declined it. I decided that morally, I didn’t want to go over to Kick.”
