Zach "Asmongold," a Twitch streamer known for his (sometimes controversial) reviews on the internet and world news, recently reacted to a post about Neuro-sama, an AI-powered Virtual YouTuber (VTuber) and chatbot developed by programmer and AI developer Vedal, known online as "vedal987."
Neuro-sama topped the charts for the most-watched female streamer. The catch is that Vedal, the developer behind the AI VTuber Neuro-sama, is male. Asmongold spoke on this in a recent livestream and claimed that Neuro's position on the chart is unwarranted:
"Are men better than women at being women? Because that's what this chart tells me. That's it, I don't know how else you could see it."
Neuro-sama was positioned in front of other top female Twitch streamers like OTK's Emiru, TSM's Jinny, and even a fellow VTuber, Ironmouse, who previously held the world record for most active subscribers.
"Why is it that they even have him up there?": Asmongold reacts to Neuro-sama taking the most-watched female streamer list's top position
Vedal created Neuro-sama by integrating a large language model to generate her speech and personality, enabling her to engage in real-time conversations with viewers.
Her voice is produced using a text-to-speech application, giving her a distinctive high-pitched, childlike tone. Additionally, a separate AI model controls her in-game actions, allowing her to play games like osu!, Minecraft, Chess, and Slay the Spire.
Something didn't click with Asmon. He wondered why a male-created VTuber would be on the top of a list meant for female candidates:
"Why is it that they even have him up there?"
Asmon later read a comment saying Neuro never pretended to be a girl and was purely an AI. In response, he claimed that a "machine" should have no place on a list with real human beings:
"It's not a girl, it's a machine. It should not be categorized on a female streamer. There is no instance where anything about it is female."
In a stream clip from July 2023, Vedal shared a humorous moment where he had been trying to convince Neuro-sama of his gender. Despite his efforts, the AI persistently referred to him as "she":
"Neuro kept calling me a woman... I was really trying to convince her that I am a man."
In other news, after streaming Path of Exile 2 for 15 hours on its launch day, Asmongold expressed high praise for the game.
