Popular Twitch streamer Zack "Asmongold" had his X account hacked by some cryptocurrency scammers on January 27, 2025. Crypto scams are not new, and many celebrity accounts on social media platforms have been manipulated before by similar hackers who use the reach and popularity of such accounts to scam as many people as they can before inevitably getting shut down.
The OTK streamer's account was hacked on January 27, 2025, and the scammers wrote a message claiming that Asmongold was announcing his own cryptocurrency. The fake announcement impersonating the Twitch streamer read:
"Guys, I am excited to announce my Very Own Official Token. The Best is yet to come... Join us and let the memes begin."
"Hey he's hacked": EsfandTV warns people about Asmongold's X account getting hacked by crypto scammers
While scams like this are not that uncommon, the fact that many online personalities have announced their own cryptocurrency in the recent past can lead many followers to fall for fake announcements. A few weeks ago, the TikTok sensation Hailey Welch, better known as the Hawk Tuah girl, launched her own meme coin, which has since been mired in controversy after allegations of the tokens being rug-pulled went viral.
Regardless, it is clear that Asmongold and his X account (with about 1 million followers) was hacked. At the time, to stop followers from falling for the scam, fellow OTK streamer EsfandTV also commented on the now-deleted post, claiming that he was with Asmongold at the time and the cryptocurrency announcement was fake.
EsfandTV urged followers to ignore the scammer's post and wrote:
"Hey he's hacked ignore this please, I'm with him IRL right now"
While Asmongold's account seems to have been restored and the cryptocurrency post deleted, clips of the scamster attempting to impersonate him online have gone viral. The scammer even tried to dupe people by joining an X Space, and his voice was starkly different from Asmongold's real voice.
This X hack on Asmongold's account comes weeks after the Twitch streamer was feuding with the owner of the platform, Elon Musk, over the account boosting allegations in Path of Exile 2.
