On January 8, 2025, Twitch stars Cinna and Valkyrae announced that they had to postpone a surprise week-long marathon they had planned due to the venue being in the California wildfire zone. Clips of the announcement quickly went viral on social media after the streamers shared the news during the 100 Thieves co-owner's broadcast on the Amazon-owned platform.
Valkyrae explained that the Airbnb they had booked for the marathon stream, initially set to start on January 9, 2025, was located in an area affected by the LA wildfires, necessitating a reschedule:
"The Airbnb that we had booked and were prepping for the marathon that was supposed to start tomorrow, it's actually in the fire zone. So, unfortunately we have to reschedule."
Cinna added that holding the marathon at the planned venue was impossible given the wildfires, as it was situated in a "danger zone":
"Chat, there is no going around it. Everything is closed over there. There is no power. I mean the house is in the danger, danger zone. We cannot risk it."
"It's not going to happen, bro": Valkyrae gets emotional about postponing marathon stream with Cinna due to the wildfires in LA
During her first stream on Twitch in five years, Valkyrae revealed that she and Cinna had been planning a seven-day marathon broadcast:
"So, Cinna and I are going to be doing a week-long marathon together. A whole week, seven days. We got special guests line up, we've got an Airbnb, we got it decorated."
The announcement was cheerful until Cinna said she felt sad:
"I am going to start crying because I am actually getting sad."
Valkyrae responded by expressing her own sadness while noting that the marathon was supposed to start on January 9, 2025:
"Stop it, I am actually going to cry, I'm so sad. Okay! We are so excited, this is starting tomorrow. That's right!"
Cinna cut the streamer off and questioned why she mentioned the start date:
"Why would tell them that?"
Only then did the pair explain that the Airbnb they had intended to use for the marathon was in the danger zone of the ongoing wildfires in LA.
However, Cinna remained optimistic, hoping that the delay wouldn't last more than a few days:
"The hope, chat, is that it is only delayed by, it was supposed to start tomorrow. The hope is that it is only delayed by a few days. That is the hope."
However, Valkyrae appeared more pessimistic, suggesting that it might take longer and implying they might need to let it go:
"It's not going to happen, bro. It's not going to happen, man. Let it go."
Valkyrae and Cinna are not the only Twitch streamers whose broadcasts have been affected by the wildfires. Shroud also had to pause his Fragathon charity stream due to safety concerns for those involved.
