Twitch streamer and musician Darryl "DDG", who goes by PontiacMadeDDG on the Amazon-owned platform, discussed the banning of the social media platform TikTok in the United States in his Twitch broadcast titled, TIKTOK IS GONE... ITS OVER on January 19, 2025.
Drawing a comparison to Donald Trump's commutation of Kodak Black's almost four-year-long jail sentence, DDG claimed that Trump may use a reversal of the TikTok ban to instill a favorable perception of himself within the people of the United States:
"Trump got Kodak out of jail, let's be honest. The n***a got Kodak Black out of jail. You don't think the n***a gonna go ahead and get TikTok, bro. He like sh**, oh, n***as want me to get Kodak out this b**ch, they gon' f**k with me after this. Let me go get Kodak out. All of a sudden they got Kodak out. He gained the black vote off that."
DDG claims that Donald Trump may use restoring TikTok as a way to gain the public's favor
The proposition of banning TikTok was initially made by Donald Trump in 2020, citing security concerns owing to the application's Chinese origin. Further, there were subsequent speculations regarding the involvement of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) government in accessing US citizens' data.
Despite initially reversing the original executive order by the Biden administration, it was eventually reintroduced under the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which was proposed in Congress in 2024. The bill was approved and signed into law by President Biden.
With TikTok now unavailable in the United States, DDG has claimed that Donald Trump may have initially proposed and eventually led to the banning of TikTok so that he could be credited with being the person who helped restore it:
"Now, he like the whole world tweaking, the whole world tweaking about this TikTok sh** right now. They spazzing out. He probably called TikTok. He probably like this, like, man, look... I'm literally packing my bags right now. I'm finna move into the White House and sh**. I promise y'all Imma buy that b**ch but ban that motherf**ker until I get in there. That b**ch gonna get banned. I'm like, boom, okay, cool. Y'all banned it, Imma bring that b**ch back the moment I get back in and everybody gon' f**k with me."
DDG was one of the individuals directly affected by the LA wildfires that covered large swathes of the city and surrounding areas. As explained by the hip-hop personality during a broadcast on Twitch, he had not gotten fire insurance for his mansion in LA, which had burned down due to the wildfires.
