Prominent internet personality Clay "Dream" hosted a livestream on January 12, 2025, amid his ongoing feud with Thomas "TommyInnit." At one point during the broadcast, Dream addressed the controversy surrounding him texting TommyInnit's mother.
For context, In March 2024, Thomas' mother, @MrsSarahSimons on X, claimed she received a direct message from an "entitled content creator" who wrote a "massive essay" on why her son is "bad."
She tweeted:
"The only DM I've not deleted is one from an entitled content creator, who had the nerve to send me a massive essay DM, on why my son's bad. The arrogance! A grown man complaining to the mum of his former pal. Playground behavior. As if I'd go, 'Actually, you're right.' Blew my mind."

Commenting on the situation, Dream claimed that TommyInnit's mother "actively tweeted at people" while interacting with his audience. The 25-year-old remarked:
"She is on Twitter, actively tweeting at people, and I privately reach out, saying, 'Hey, just so you know, you're saying stuff about this video that involves me and you're interacting with my fans. Here is my opinion.' I think that is, in my mind, is very reasonable. Again, I think that if I go back, I wouldn't do it. Primarily because, clearly, it really upset him and also upset his mom, which I don't want to do that."
Dream claimed that upsetting the two was not his intention and tried clearing the air on his move:
"My intention with his message was not at all to upset his mom or upset him. It was literally just, 'Hey! You're saying this publicly. You're getting attacked by people publicly, I want to let you know how I feel about that, I want to make sure you're not okay with that. I want to make sure you know my personal opinion on the video, and I want to make sure you know the impact that's having on me and my family.'"
The Minecraft streamer then responded to allegations that he was being "manipulative":
"The whole Brighton group, and Tommy and his friends used this like a way to say that I am some manipulative person. Or use this as a back and say, 'See! He's so manipulative! He even whipped your mom to try and get you!' That's not what happened! It's very disingenuous to imply that, in some way, me showing this message with her is manipulative."
Dream responds to Tubbo accusing him of being "manipulative" after he messaged TommyInnit's mother
After explaining why he contacted TommyInnit's mother, Dream addressed fellow Minecraft streamer Tobias "Tubbo's" recent statements about the situation. While speculating that there must have been some "miscommunication," Clay stated:
"Tubbo, obviously, in this case, frames it like I just DM'd his mom out of nowhere because Tommy wasn't replying to me, which isn't what happened! That's just not what happened! Again, I don't know if Tommy is telling Tubbo what happened. I don't know. I'm guessing not. I'm guessing there's some miscommunication, that Tommy is not communicating as much. That's not what happened!"
As of this writing, TommyInnit has not responded to Dream's explanation for messaging his mother.
