Twitch streamer and commentator Zack "Asmongold" recently received a temporary ban on his alternate account, Zackrawrr. The platform took punitive action following his controversial remarks regarding the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict during a broadcast on the alternate channel on October 14, 2024.
While discussing the conflicts taking place in the region of the Middle East, Asmongold claimed that the Palestinian culture was "inferior," stated that he had no empathy for the victims of genocide, and claimed that genocide was "baked in their laws." Furthermore, he stated that the culture of "these people" was "antithetical" to Western values:
"No, I'm not going to cry a f**king river when people who have genocide that's baked into their laws are getting genocide'd. I dont give a f**k. They're terrible people... These people are not your allies, they are not the same as us. They come from an inferior culture that is horrible, it kills people for their identity and is directly antithetical to everything Western values stand for and is an inferior culture in all ways."
Many Twitch streamers have welcomed the punitive action from the Amazon-backed platform, which has now made the alternate channel inaccessible. The streamer will also be unable to use his main account, as it could invite further action by the platform for "ban evasion." However, concerns have been raised regarding the lack of severity Twitch has taken against Asmongold.
Voicing these concerns, Twitch content creator Kaceytron has called the temporary ban an "extremely light penalization." Referring to Asmongold as "Adolfmold," Kaceytron stated:
"Adolfmold's alt account "zackrawrr" was banned. His main account is still not banned. Hopefully this extremely light penalization will make him stop repeating white supremacist talking points. We will see."
Meanwhile, fellow Twitch creator Austin "Gremloe" expressed satisfaction with the ban:
"Looks like Asmongolds main channel "Zackrawrr" has been temporarily banned. Good to see some consequences for terrible behavior on Twitch."
Palestinian/Lebanese Twitch streamer CapriSunnPapi commended Twitch for "doing the right thing" by banning Asmongold to prevent "bigotry" from being "normalized":
"It looks like @Asmongold was banned on his zackrawrr good on Twitch for doing the right thing. We can't allow bigotry to be normalized."
Twitch speedrunner Matthew "DarkViperAU" went as far as to claim that Asmongold may "actually have a mental illness" :
"The degradation of Asmongold as a person and his content is something that should be studied. In his early career, he was edgy but a harmless doofus. Now he might actually have a mental illness..."
What was Asmongold's reaction to the backlash?
The overwhelmingly negative reaction resulted in an apology post being made by Asmongold on X, where he claimed that he was "too much of an a**hole" while discussing the matter of Palestine.
He further stated that despite individuals doing things or having views he finds "regressive," they did not deserve to have their "lives destroyed." This apology has led to a mixed reception from the online community, with some calling him out for not saying "sorry" but using the phrase "my bad" instead.
