Richard Bengtson, better known as "FaZe Banks," has claimed he took out a $11.5 million loan to revamp FaZe Clan. FaZe Banks appeared as a guest on Steve-O's Wild Ride! podcast episode 226. During their conversation, the 32-year-old claimed the esports organization was spending $6 million per month before he took over as CEO:
"My whole thesis on this FaZe s**t, especially like, 18 months ago, when he had f**king 100+ employees and the burn rate was... at one point, these motherf**kers were spending $6 a month. On what? I would always say, 'Give me $6 million a month, I could take over the f**king planet!' I really feel that way. They're f**king doing goat yoga in the offices and s**t."
A few moments later, FaZe Banks claimed that firing numerous content creators from FaZe Clan was "so easy" for him because he was "out of favors." He then disclosed that he "borrowed" $11.5 million, saying:
"(Podcast host asks, 'Firing people was hard or easy for you?') So easy! Oh, yeah! I'm at the point where, like, I'm all out of favors, man. I just borrowed $11.5 million to f**king get this done, and like, maybe the favors will turn back when I pay that back."
"Trusting the wrong person over and over," says FaZe Banks after claiming to have taken $11.5 million loan to revamp FaZe Clan
FaZe Banks continued the conversation, claiming that he had been "trusting the wrong" people his entire career, adding that he "always knew deep down":
"My whole f**king career, it's been one hand out after the other. Trusting the wrong person over and over and over. And, I have always deep down known. You know what I mean?"
The FaZe Clan founding member further stated that he needed his "homies" as well as a few people who worked off-camera for the organization. He elaborated:
"Again, I just need me and my f**king homies. And maybe fix, six, seven, eight people behind the camera. You know what I mean? Helping me f**king keep s**t organized. You know? A money guy. A legal guy. And then a couple of guys holding cameras and f**king..."
FaZe Banks then stated that he intended to further downsize the organization after firing numerous employees:
"I think there's, like, 20-something (employees). But I want to cut it down even more, honestly. I think it's 20 or 30 (employees)."
In other news, FaZe Banks tweeted he would "smack the s**t out of" Felix "xQc" after the Twitch and Kick star made lighthearted remarks about FaZe Clan.
