In a recent report by Rolling Stone about the Dr DisRespect scandal, a former Twitch employee has claimed that Guy Beahm, aka Dr DisRespect, knew that he was sending graphic sexual messages to the underage individual in question. And that the severity of the issue, after it was investigated in 2020, led to the streamer getting permanently banned from the platform.
For those unaware, Beahm has been at the center of one of the biggest controversies in the streaming industry this year after an ex-Twitch employee named Cody Conners made claims last week that the streamer was banned from the Amazon-owned platform for sending inappropriate messages to a minor.
Since then, multiple esports and gaming journalists have cited several unnamed sources to corroborate this story, with some even claiming that Doc had tried talking about meeting up with the underage individual at a TwitchCon. In a statement, the streamer has confirmed he had texted a minor, but remained adamant that he had done nothing illegal.
While this has caused a lot of backlash against Dr DisRespect, some have been still on the fence regarding the matter, speculating whether the streamer knew he was texting a minor. In the Rolling Stone report, another former employee of the streaming platform has claimed that the streamer had been informed by the individual that they were underage, but that it had no effect on the inappropriate messages. Here is a relevant quote from the ex-Twitch employee from the article:
"I recall that Dr Disrespect was made aware by the individual that they were underage during the conversation, after which he indicated that this was no problem and continued on."
The source alleges that even after understanding he was messaging a minor, Beahm continued sending graphic and explicit texts to the individual. The former Twitch employee also called out Doc's recent statement where he described the messages as "leaning too much in the direction of inappropriate."
Dr DisRespect faces backlash from fellow streamers such as Nickmercs, TimTheTatman, and Nadeshot
In the aftermath of Dr DisRespect's owning up to messaging a minor in a post on X, the popular YouTube streamer has seen a wave of sentiments from his fellow content creators. Figures such as Nick "Nickmercs" who had previously defended him, openly explained how he could not support a person messaging an underage individual, especially considering he was a father himself.
Timothy "TimTheTatman", another popular FPS streamer on YouTube who frequently played with Doc and Nickmercs, also came out with a statement against him following the viral post on X. Other streaming personalities such as Pokimane, Valkyrae, and MoistCr1TiKal have echoed similar sentiments, calling out the 42-year-old content creator.
100 Thieves co-owner and CEO Nadeshot, who used to be golf partners with Dr DisRespect, has denounced the streamer as well.
Besides his fellow streamers, Doc's video game studio Midnight Society, which he co-founded in 2021, also cut ties with him almost a day before he made the post owning up to messaging a minor. San Francisco 49ers have also terminated their relationship with the streamer.
