What is the awarding process behind the 2024 Esports Awards ceremony?
The process to determine the winners of all the listed categories has been detailed on the website of the event. Stage 1 involves nominations being provided by the Esports Awards Panel, made up of experts from varied areas of the esports industry.
This step is followed by Stage 2, which is the Shortlisting stage, wherein final nominations are selected by June 10 by the internal committee. The finalists are then announced publicly through an announcement show in Stage 3.
Things then kick into gear at Stage 4, which is the public voting stage. It has been specified that winners of certain categories including those for Industry, Pro, Creative, On-Air Talent, and Entertainment Award categories are decided through a combination of the public vote and the panel vote. The public vote in this case accounts for 25% of the vote, and the panel counts for 75%.
However, it is important to note that the Esports Content Creator of the Year, Esports Personality of the Year, and Streamer of the Year are chosen 100% based on the community vote.
In Stage 5, a judging panel will vote on the nominees, with each panelist voting independently. Stage 6 signifies the end of the public voting, and finally, Stage 7 involves combining the panel-voted points as well as the community-voted points to create the "verified totals".
The Esports Awards has come under controversy after announcing its move to Riyadh. Popular Esports commentator Alex "Goldenboy" ended up resigning from his post as a host of the awards, citing his disappointment with the "higher-ups" of the event.
In an exclusive response to Sportskeeda, PGL CEO Silviu Stroie also revealed that he had quit the event panel in protest of the change. On the other hand, the CEO of the Esports Awards, Michael Ashford also addressed the backlash the announcement had caused with Sportskeeda.
