However, his daring stunt has also elicited some mixed reactions from social media users. While Norme hasn't yet shared any medical troubles, staying awake for such long periods can lead to adverse effects on the body (such as hypertension and stress among others). One X.com user wrote this:
"That's gonna have some serious repercussions."
Another user shared his concerns over the stream, stating that others might attempt to emulate the stunt. They wrote:
"Sharing this does what entices more people to try this."
Here are some other reactions:
Did streamer Norme beat the world record for the longest time awake?
YouTube streamer Norme's attempt to stay awake for 264 hours has certainly been a daunting challenge. Unfortunately, he has not yet broken the official record for the longest time spent awake.
This record is currently held by Robert McDonald, who stayed awake for over 19 days straight in 1986, totaling approximately 453 hours and 40 minutes. His feat was even recognized by the Guinness World Records.
It seems that Norme's attempt was based on Randy Gardner's former world record, where Gardner stayed awake for 11 days and 24 minutes (264.4 hours). This record was set between December 1963 and January 1964 by Gardner, who was just 17 years old at the time.
However, it's worth noting that the Guinness World Record no longer recognizes this record due to the health risks associated with staying awake for such extended periods. This means that even if Norme had beaten McDonald's record, he wouldn't have received any official certification.
The official YouTube stream has been removed by the platform from Norme's channel. He then moved his attempt to Kick, where he was subsequently banned. Eventually, he completed the 264-hour mark on Rumble.
