Former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive professional Jaryd "summit1g" had some harsh words for Deadlock, the upcoming MOBA third-person shooter video game by Valve. The shooter is currently in early development and is under playtesting by a restricted number of individuals. Access to the game can be given by these individuals to others on an invite-only basis.
While playing Deadlock during his recent Twitch broadcast on August 25, 2024, the streamer told his audience how he felt about Valve's next big release:
"I actually hate this game, chat. I'm playing to play with Shroud right now, let it be known."
"It makes me just want to play SMITE": Summit1g reviews Valve's Deadlock after playing it during a recent broadcast
After being under "secret" development by Valve for some time, the game made its appearance on Steam on April 28, 2024. However, Deadlock was finally announced on August 24, 2024. As per its Steam page, it is still in "early development" and features "experimental" gameplay. Thus, fans can expect major changes to be made to the game in the upcoming months as it develops further.
The game has skyrocketed in popularity since its official announcement, surpassing other big-time games such as Helldivers 2 and reaching a massive 90,000 players even while maintaining an invite-only status quo.
However, Summit1g does not seem to be a big fan of the game and stated that he would rather prefer to play SMITE, another third-person MOBA title, which was released in 2014:
"I'm ready to quit, though. I really don't like it. I really don't f**king like it. It makes me just want to play SMITE."
On the other hand, some content creators have resonated with the game, and are outspoken in their support for its development. One such creator is Team Liquid member Jonas "AverageJonas" who recently announced that he would be quitting playing Valorant indefinitely. He stated that Deadlock summed up "everything" he wanted in a game, and hence was looking at the upcoming MOBA title as "the new beginning".
