Twitch star Asmongold has criticized the PS5 Pro that was recently announced by Sony. The streamer raised concerns about the console's $699 price tag and claimed that it does not have enough exclusive games. According to him, the device is not worth the cost.
While streaming on Twitch, Asmongold came across the announcement trailer shared by the PlayStation account and proceeded to read from the official blog post listing its features:
"They did release the PS5 Pro, oh boy! 'Features GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, PlayStation Super Resolution to take players to new heights.'
"Uh-huh, I don't know, maybe I am crazy. Is somebody really going to drop $700 for this? I feel like it's not really worth it."
"In eight years the price has almost doubled": Asmongold comments on PS5 Pro's $700 price tag, calls out announcement for use of trailers for unreleased games
Asmongold is known for his commentary about video games and pop culture. Popular on Twitch for his MMO streams, the OTK co-founder has a reputation for being critical of video game publishers, recently calling out Ubisoft for their Star Wars Outlaws title.
The Twitch star, whose main channel on the platform has over 3.5 million followers (his alternate zackrawrr channel boasts over 1.8 million followers), was not happy with the trailer showcasing PS5 Pro's capabilities. After watching a part of it, he commented on the video game trailers used and claimed there were not enough titles on the platform:
"Man, the PS5 has so few games that they already have to resort to using trailers for games that haven't even released in order to fill out the catalog of games shown for the new f**king console. That's pretty f**king funny."
He went on to state that the PS5 generation does not have a valuable upgrade over its previous generations in terms of features to justify costing almost $700:
"The PS5 doesn't really bring in any new unique value in the same way that PS3 having a Blu-Ray or the PS2 having a DVD player really brings. And didn't the PS1 used to be able to play music like a CD? Yeah it did, that was huge back then. But yeah, '$700 for this rubbish, we are done.' I mean wow. I don't think PS5 has a lot of games on it that make it worthwhile."
Asmongold then came across a social media post that noted how the PS4 Pro cost $399 at launch and further called out the price of the PS5 Pro:
"PS4 Pro, wait wow! So in eight years the price has almost doubled. That is incredible! That is nuts how bad it is. Oh my f**king god."
Asmongold is not alone in his concerns about the PS5 Pro's premium price tag, with many fans hoping for substantial performance boosts for upcoming video games, such as the much-anticipated GTA 6.
