Popular tech YouTuber Linus "LinusTechTips" recently announced that he would not participate in the class action lawsuit filed by YouTuber and lawyer Devin "LegalEagle" against Honey. For those unaware, Honey is a company that claims to provide its users with coupons and deals in e-commerce transactions through a browser extension.
Honey has been facing accusations of multiple unscrupulous activities, including affiliate link hijacking, and pushing coupons and deals favoring their affiliates or partners over the ones that may offer bigger savings. Despite, this LinusTechTips stated that he would not like to be a part of the legal proceedings against Honey:
"We're not going to be joining regardless. No, I've talked about this before but I'm not particularly litigious. It's not really my way. I tend to see lawsuits and particularly class action lawsuits as a mechanism to enrich lawyers and really not much of anyone else."
"Kind of doubt this is going to go anywhere": LinusTechTips explains reason behind him not participating in class action lawsuit against Honey

The controversy began with a video uploaded by YouTuber MegaLag, titled Exposing the Honey Influencer Scam, in which he made categorical allegations against the Paypal-owned company of costing content creators "millions of dollars" by partaking in affiliate link hijacking.
To those unaware, affiliate link hijacking by Honey involves the browser extension removing the affiliate coupon code provided by an influencer promoting a product, and replacing it with its own coupon code during the checkout process instead.
This swapping of this affiliate coupon then prevents the influencer from receiving their commission for promoting the product and instead supposedly allows Honey to pocket the commission money.
After the video made by MegaLag went viral, YouTuber and lawyer LegalEagle, who often provides professional legal insight into ongoing internet controversies, decided to file a class action lawsuit against Honey.
However, LTT revealed that he disliked the idea of him partaking in the lawsuit during the recent episode of his podcast, the WAN show, on January 3, 2025. The YouTuber further stated that the lawsuit may just be for "show" and the payout may not be considerable enough for him to participate:
"There are class actions where the payout is a thousand bucks and you know, maybe even more, I don't know. What I can tell you now though is that I doubt that's going to happen. What I suspect is that... this could very well end up being for show. Like, I kind of doubt that this is going to go anywhere. But if it does go somewhere, hey, you know what? F**k PayPal sideways... I have never had to sue anybody, and I would like to keep it that way as long as possible."
LegalEagle made headlines in December 2024, after filing a lawsuit against the United States government, particularly the American Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI to obtain records regarding the investigation of Donald Trump.
