"I'm stoked to sing alongside my other Myth members" - Hololive's Gawr Gura talks upcoming concert, singing for the Dodgers, and more (Exclusive)

Hololive’s Gawr Gura will be joining several of her fellow VTubers in an upcoming live concert in NYC: Breaking Dimensions! Ahead of this, I had the opportunity to chat with the shark-girl, and talk about her career, making history at the recent Dodgers game, and so much more. It’s fascinating to see the kind of growth VTubers have had over the past few years.

An incredibly talented streamer and musician, Gawr Gura is a part of the first hololive English generation -Myth-, alongside Ninomae Ina’nis, Takanashi Kiara, Watson Amelia, and Mori Calliope.

She also has the distinction of being the most-subscribed VTuber in the world - which is certainly nothing to sneeze at, at around 4.5 million followers. Gawr Gura will join other Hololive VTubers at Kings Theatre in New York for a two-day event.

Q. Hello! First, thank you for taking the time to chat with us. For those not familiar with you, could you please introduce yourself to our audience?

Gawr Gura: Hiya! I’m Gura from Hololive English 1st Generation: Myth. I’m a shark-girl from the lost city of Atlantis!

Q. You’ve had a really remarkable career since debuting for the first-gen English-speaking Hololive group. Despite that, it’s a pretty massive spotlight to have on you and the other Hololive team for this upcoming concert. How are you feeling, going into the second English concert?

Gawr Gura: I think everyone is anticipating the upcoming concert this week! It’s always exciting when a hobby that exists largely online finds its way into the real world. Even better when you get to share it with other fans!

Q. Even your first 3D Live concert went remarkably well. What’s it like performing music in front of these tens of thousands of people?

Gawr Gura: Performing makes me incredibly nervous...and probably always will. But it is also one of the most exhilarating experiences! I love it very much.

Q. Perhaps one of the coolest things any VTuber has done in recent memory, was your appearance in a recent Dodgers game - you sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” in the seventh inning, and ultimately, the Dodgers won the game. Do you feel at least partly responsible for the comeback victory?

Gawr Gura: Singing at the Dodger game at THEE Dodger Stadium was so cool! Baseball is a game that requires a lot of skill, so the Dodger win was definitely the result of the hard work of their players! But if they’d ever like a little blue shark to cheer for them again, I'd happily partake!

Q. You’re going to be performing along a real who’s who at the Hololive English 2nd Concert. Is there anyone in particular you’re really looking forward to singing alongside?

Gawr Gura: I’m stoked to sing alongside my other Myth members. We’ve been at this together for almost four years now. I’ll take every chance I can get to join them on stage.

Q. Is there someone among the hololive Vtubers that you haven’t collaborated with when it comes to music, that you’d like to in the future?

Gawr Gura: As Hololive English has recently added new members, I hope someday to join in a massive song project with ALL members!
