YouTube streamer Herschel "Dr Disrespect" has released an official statement regarding the recent allegations levied on him by Twitch ex-staffer Cody Conners (@evoli on X). The statement was released by Herschel on his X account on June 25, 2024, and seemed to confirm certain aspects of the original allegations.

The allegations insinuated that Herschel's mysterious ban from Twitch in 2020 was due to the creator using the now-unavailable Twitch Whisper feature to contact a minor and attempt to meet her at a TwitchCon event.

These allegations blew up within streaming circles, and many creators have since reacted, including prominent names such as Twitch creator Nadia and political commentator Steven "Destiny".

As per the original version of the post, he confirmed there had been a back-and-forth of Twitch Whisper messages between him and a "minor individual" in 2017. Notably, the post has been edited several times, with the first edit to the original post particularly being made to remove the word "minor". Later, the word was added back into the post in another edit.

However, he clarified that nothing "illegal" had taken place and that the two parties had never met in person. Further, he stated there had been no photos shared between them, and he had been in a civil dispute case with Twitch, with no criminal charges being filed against him.

The post has since blown up on X, with it receiving over 5.7 million views within just a few hours of posting. Netizens have mixed reactions to the statement made by Dr Disrespect, with some commending him for being upfront, while others are not satisfied and critical of his actions as well as his response to the controversy.

This post by Dr Disrespect came after Midnight Society, a gaming studio co-founded by the Doc, severed ties with him following the allegations. Within the post, Herschel stated that the decision to step away from the game studio emerged out of his want to avoid "jeopardizing" the studio.

Further, within the response statement, Dr Disrespect clarified that although the conversations sometimes leaned "too much" into "the direction of being inappropriate," nothing unlawful had taken place as no pictures had been shared and no crimes took place. The streamer also stated that he did not meet the individual, and the lawsuit settlement he had reached with Twitch was regarding a civil dispute and not a criminal case.

He also took "moral responsibility" for his actions, stating that he should have "never entertained" the conversations that took place between him and the minor. He also denounced the use of labels like "predator" or "pedophile," which he claimed were being used by netizens on social media in a form of "exaggeration". He concluded the message by stating that he was not "going anywhere".
