Twitch streamer Jesse "MOONMOON" has been making a topic of conversation today (September 26, 2024). He has been accused of having an affair with fellow Twitch streamer and GTA 5 RP player Jillian "DivaJilly." These accusations have stemmed from DivaJilly's husband, KingCaffeine (@CallmeCaff), who alleged the two to have engaged in an affair despite both being married.
For further context, MOONMOON's character, Maximilian Thoroughbred, in NoPixel, is married to DivaJilly's character, Siobhan Thoroughbred (née Fitzpatrick). They share a rather intimate relationship within the game's server.
An old video has resurfaced online where MOONMOON addressed his fans, responding to questions about risking his actual marriage by having an in-game relationship with DivaJilly's character. He stated:
"I super love my wife and we are in a very good relationship. My wife isn't, 'You're talking to that f**king role-play girl.' I am trying to role-play a character. I have no feelings for the person on the other end of my role-play. I have no intentions of speaking to them out of character any more than necessary."
"He unironically has a divorced dad fridge probably" - Fans react to the old clip of MOONMOON talking about his role-play relationship
MOONMOON has faced significant criticism following the allegations of cheating. The streamer has since addressed the controversy, revealing that he had been going through a separation from his wife (before the allegations had surfaced).
Naturally, the old clip of him reassuring fans that his real-life relationship would not be affected by his role-playing character has gone viral. One user wrote:
"He unironically has a divorced dad fridge probably," said u/Testiclesinvicegrip
Another user criticized streamers for having such virtual relationships:
"I don’t believe them when they say they can keep role play liking someone and liking someone separate because the wires get crossed and even actors struggle with it," said u/MarcoThePhoenix
Some fans drew comparison between Nmplol and Malena, both of whom also recently broke up:
"Just like Nick and Malena fighting constantly, you're not playing a character for 4-8+ hours a day, every day. You might be slightly exaggerating, but you'd have to be an insanely talented actor to genuinely be someone completely different almost every single day of your life for years on end," said u/BigReeceJames
Another wrote:
"Even talented actors fall in love after pretending to be a couple for a movie/show," said u/Drew602
Despite the criticism, MOONMOON has claimed that DivaJilly was in an open relationship. However, this has been denied by her husband. DivaJilly herself has stated that she will go live in a couple of days to address the controversy.
