Twitch streamer Fiona "Fanfan" has responded to criticisms directed at her after she defended Emily "ExtraEmily" over her student loan controversy. For those out of the loop, ExtraEmily went viral on social media on January 3, 2025, after she said she did not intend to repay her parents $140,000 in college tuition fees.
In one of the videos posted on X, the One True King (OTK) member broke down in tears after her live audience criticized her decision.
Fanfan eventually commented on the controversy via a detailed post on X. Claiming to be in the "same boat" as ExtraEmily, the 24-year-old content creator wrote:
"Like Emily, I will not be paying my mom back. Instead, I pay for her mortgage, bills, food, flights, and my brother’s college tuition. Similarly, Emily prefers helping her parents out the same way or treating them to vacations (which she quite literally just did), instead of just giving them a big sum of money."
On January 7, 2025, Fanfan responded to criticisms over her support for ExtraEmily by stating that she had a "new perception of society and its stupidity." Furthermore, she claimed that she had been "traumatized forever":
"I have a whole new perception of society and its stupidity. I am at a loss for words at how deeply challenged so many people are at comprehending simple phrases. My whole worldview is shattered, and I have been truly traumatized forever."
Fanfan responds to those calling her out for saying she prefers to help her parents the "same way" ExtraEmily does
In a follow-up post, Fanfan stated that she was "stunlocked" by those calling her out for saying she prefers to help her parents in the "same way" that ExtraEmily does:
"At this point, idgaf (I don't give a f**k) about the situation, I'm just so genuinely stunlocked by the fact that it seems no one knows what 'the same way' means. I can't stop scouring comments for someone to be like 'Hey it's not just vacations, there's a conjunction you missed,' but there's nothing!"
Additionally, the Twitch streamer stated that she "gaslit herself" into believing that she phrased her X post, in which she defended ExtraEmily, incorrectly:
"Like, this certainly cannot be real, right? Both people against Emily and people defending Emily seem to be misreading this. I even gaslit myself into thinking I phrased it incorrectly, but I f**king didn't, and it's such simple syntax there's no excuse, wtf."
ExtraEmily recently addressed the controversy by announcing that she has repaid her parents for college tuition. Furthermore, the content creator stated that she would never let her parents suffer.
