YouTube streamer Darren "IShowSpeed" visited The Philippines for the second time during his Southeast Asia tour. Things quickly turned chaotic, as fans in the country's Cebu City swarmed the streamer whenever he was out and about. Cebu is famous for its historic sites, Sinulog Festival, beautiful beaches, lechon, diving spots, vibrant economy, and guitar-making industry.
Unfortunately, the stream wasn't up to the standard for some, especially because of how overwhelming the local fans were, trailing Speed at every location, even hampering his movement. Fans would block his path as he moved around on foot or in public transportation; overall, being outside was virtually impossible for him without strict crowd control.
In the clip (from his stream) above, Speed uses multiple languages including Filipino to say "calm down" to the crowd surrounding his vehicle. Reacting to the chaos, some Filipino fans like @Armand_Gman mentioned that the whole situation was just disappointing, even bringing up Norway, a country where Speed had a similar fan interaction experience:
"As a Filipino living in the Philippines, seeing what’s been happening in Cebu with IShowSpeed’s stream is incredibly disappointing and embarrassing to the point it’s been dubbed “worse than Manila and Norway”... I wouldn’t be surprised and would understand if he never comes back."
@sw0rdzVAL spoke on the behavior of local fans, claiming it was unacceptable:
"As a Cebuano, I've never felt more ashamed to be a Cebuano ever man... this is NOT how we're supposed to treat visitors."
Filipino fans on YouTube reacted to the live stream's re-upload and user @cyzus22 broke down Speed's chaotic experience:
"The signal was horrendous (70% lag), the people riding the bikes were disrespectful AF, the route pre-planning was terrible (I remember Henry saying that the organizers were supposed to test the route). Last sentence from speed: 'worst stream, even worse than Norway'."
Others like @alpineman said that IShowSpeed should've streamed earlier in the day:
"As a fellow Cebuano, I feel so bad for speed 'cause it's not normally like this here in Cebu, a big tip to begin with was to stream earlier in the morning and early afternoon due to it being a weekday and less of a crowd."
Recapping IShowSpeed's second visit to The Philippines
IShowSpeed opened up his stream in Cebu City pumped with excitement, stating that he's staying true to his promise by re-visiting The Philippines since his fans brought him to a subscriber goal:
"We never go back on our promises chat. Philippines I told y'all [in] the last stream... I said if y'all got me to got me to... I think y'all were at maybe [28.5 million subscribers] I don't know I forgot but if y'all got me to 500,000 subs chat we would do a part three so now we are here, in Cebu, Philippines."
During the stream, Speed met Lincoln Velasquez "Cong TV", a popular Filipino YouTuber known for his comedic skits, vlogs, and gaming content. The two went around in a "Jeepney", a mode of public transportation in the Philippines. At this point, fans surrounded the Jeepney, asking for photos and touching Speed while he was in the vehicle.
The streamer went around eating local food, and interacting with the locals. At one point, he even took a helicopter to shift locations, specifically to make an appearance on a radio show.
Overall, because of the unruly nature of the fans as well as poor connectivity, Speed's stream was cut short, leading to many being underwhelmed.
IShowSpeed has set a new personal viewership record, with his IRL stream in Indonesia reaching over 1 million viewers at its peak.
