YouTube star Darren "IShowSpeed" revealed during his broadcast on the Google-owned website that he had received express permission from the producer of the anime One Piece to stream it on his YouTube channel. The streamer is known to be a huge fan of the series, often wearing clothing or owning trinkets that are references to it or its characters, specifically its protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy.
Speed claimed that during a conversation with the One Piece series producer, who he did not name, he had been told that his channel would be allowed to stream the entirety of the series during his YouTube broadcasts:
"Chat, I met the producer of One Piece. Right? And chat, guess what she said? Guess what the producer of One Piece said, y'all. She said she will let me stream all- she will whitelist my channel for me to stream all the One Piece episodes on my channel."
"Nobody has never gotten that": IShowSpeed claims to have gotten permission from One Piece producer to livestream the entire anime
IShowSpeed has expressed his love for One Piece time and time again. Among many personal possessions dedicated to the anime, the streamer has a tattoo of Monkey D. Luffy on his right shoulder. The 19-year-old has also talked about how the series helped him when he was having a tough time with his mental health, especially during the peak quarantine days of 2020.
Representing the series' significance in his life, his YouTube channel's banner is dedicated to the anime even today, and the streamer recently revealed that he had dedicated a substantial part of his new gaming room to the anime, spending $100,000 in the process.
Discussing the supposed extent of the permission he had received from the One Piece producer for streaming the anime, IShowSpeed stated:
"So, chat, I will be able to watch One Piece episodes without getting copyrighted on my channel. And chat, nobody never gotten that, chat. Yo, chat, nobody has never gotten that. No YouTuber, streamer, Twitch or whatever, chat. Nobody has never gotten that."
Further, reiterating the authenticity of his claims, IShowSpeed stated that he had recorded his interaction with the One Piece producer as part of a video log, and thus has "proof" of her giving him the permission. He stated:
"I swear on my life she said that, I have the vlog proof. The vlog is just not edited yet, but I swear to god that's what she said. So, chat, that's going to be crazy, yo!"
IShowSpeed mentioned the series before his recent Fortnite OG marathon with Kai Cenat. In early December 2024, IShowSpeed requested Fortnite to collaborate with One Piece and potentially include the characters of the series as icon skins in-game. This was before his recent Fortnite OG marathon held in collaboration with Kai Cenat.
