YouTube streamer Darren "IShowSpeed" has been known to showcase his athleticism on stream, frequently running and jumping around, like on his recent Southeast Asia tour. One of his trademark actions is the backflip, which first blew up in 2021. Fast forward to 2024, and Speed is trying to break a world record for backflips.

Essentially, the streamer challenged himself to do over 1,008 backflips in 24 hours and break the world record. He has performed daring stunts in the past, like jumping over cars, but has never committed to such challenges involving high levels of endurance. Around 30 minutes into the attempt, Speed crossed 100 backflips.

During the introduction, Speed said that to break the record, he'd have to do a minimum of 42 backflips an hour. As time progressed, he appeared to feel the pressure, with his legs supposedly cramping. He took breaks to rest and stay hydrated.

Considering he was able to do a 100 well behind schedule, the streamer is on track to smash his goal, as of this writing.

Fighting exhaustion, Speed made it past 300 flips about three hours into the broadcast. To aid with recovery, the streamer brought a masseuse on to relax his muscles as he seemed to feel fatigued.

The current record stands at 1,001 backflips, set by Nico Scheicher from Austria in 2019 and Speed said that he would stop the challenge if he managed to reach the target before the 24-hour mark.

However, the official recognition of his attempt might be in question. Guinness World Records was unaware of this when it began, which could mean that IShowSpeed might not have followed the formal registration process required for an official record attempt.

The official Guinness World Record X page reposted Speed's attempt announcement and said:

"We had no idea this was happening but you do you bro."

This oversight could prevent his effort from being officially acknowledged, despite his impressive performance so far.

In other news, IShowSpeed had a close call with a fire while playing on a beach in Thailand.
