A clip of YouTube star Darren "IShowSpeed" deciding to give away a 1/88 Carl F. Bucherer luxury watch has gone viral. On July 6, 2024, the Ohio native hosted an IRL stream from Switzerland as part of his ongoing Europe tour. During the broadcast, he was seen shopping for watches when the salesperson revealed that one luxury wearable at the shop was limited edition.
She said:
"All right, so this is your watch, one out of 88 only. Yep, because we were founded in 1888, so it's only 88 watches. And this is yours."
IShowSpeed replied that he intended to give away the watch because he "didn't want it":
"Can you give me my wallet? Chat, I'm going to give this watch away, though. I ain't going to lie. I'm going to give it away. I don't even want it. I'm going to just buy it just because I'm in Switzerland. I'm going to give it away."
While making the transaction, the 19-year-old discovered that the 1/88 Carl F. Bucherer was worth 7,900 Swiss Francs. He remarked:
"Oh, you lied to me, bro! You said 7,900. (The salesperson says, 'Yeah, Swiss Francs.') Yeah, and the USD is 10 grand! (The salesperson responds, 'Well, it's your decision.') Y'all can't be doing that! You all told me Switzerland [Swiss Francs] and USD is the same currency, man! Okay, it's all cool."
A few moments later, IShowSpeed exclaimed in delight, saying that he purchased a "Switzerland watch":
"Oh, I got a Switzerland watch! Come on now, man! I'm going to give this away too, y'all."
