Felix “xQc,” like many other gamers, recently saw the trailer of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, among the many other games revealed during the June 18, 2024, Nintendo Direct. While the Juicer may have been excited about some of it, when it came to the newest Zelda game, he seemed far less interested. With a muttered “that’s cool” here or there, he watched the gameplay.

Toward the end of the world reveal, it was clear that xQc didn’t really care for the art style for this upcoming Zelda title. Echoes of Wisdom shares an art style with the recent remake of Link’s Awakening, and while it’s not clear where it falls in the timeline, one thing is: Felix did not care for the visuals:

“This style, it doesn’t grow on you, it doesn’t.”

xQc blasts the upcoming Zelda title, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

(Clip begins at 8:40:48)

xQc streamed the entire Nintendo Direct, and one of the last games revealed was The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Upon first seeing the trailer, where Link defeats a few enemies and prepares to battle Ganon, the streamer can be heard muttering “Oh god…” He initially thought it was a Rhythm game, but quickly realized it wasn't the case.

The trailer continued to play out, with Link being swallowed by a mysterious rift, and Zelda being freed by his arrow. The upcoming game will have more of a puzzle feel, with Zelda herself being the protagonist, as she goes to save Hyrule and Link this time.

As the shot panned out over the kingdom of Hyrule, and Zelda stood atop a cliff overlooking the lands she was destined to protect, xQc seemed baffled. Looking at the world that was set out before him, he thought it looked pretty empty:

“This s**t looks empty as f**k. Are you kidding me?”

As Eiji Aonuma, Producer of the Zelda franchise explained that the princess herself was going to be the protagonist, the streamer let out a confused “WHAT?” The upcoming game promises to offer something new for players, as Zelda uses her wisdom to outmaneuver enemies and puzzles across Hyrule.

While watching the remainder of the trailer, xQc would occasionally mutter “That’s cool,” such as when it was revealed Zelda could make “echoes” or copies of rocks to throw at enemies, and again when she made copies of enemies to fight for her. However, the streamer looked incredibly disinterested as he watched more.

Toward the end of the video, he decided that this art style wasn’t for him. The Kick streamer went on record saying he wasn’t particularly impressed by the upcoming Zelda title, saying:

“This style, it doesn’t grow on you, it doesn’t. It looks cozy, yeah. But for an entire playthrough? Oof.”

However, he did really like the Nintendo Switch Lite that was revealed, a gold Switch Lite that had the Hyrule sigil on the back of it, remarking he had one of the Zelda 3DS handhelds.

xQc wasn’t critical of every game though, being excited for titles like Perfect Dark and Metroid Prime 4.
