Controversial IRL livestreamer Johnny Somali is reportedly going to face trial after South Korean prosecutors indicted the American citizen currently living in the country. As per Korea JoongAng Daily and other local news outlets, Johnny is accused of disturbing and disrupting business in a convenience store.
The indictment comes amid various scandals associated with Johnny Somali. The content creator made national news after a video of him touching and kissing a war memorial went viral a few weeks ago. Although he has apologized for his transgressions with the war memorial, reports suggest that if convicted, the streamer could face up to 10 years in prison.
Johnny Somali is reportedly in judicial custody after being charged with obstruction of business in a South Korean store
Johnny Somali, real name Ramsey Khalid Ismael, is an American YouTuber and former Kick streamer known for making IRL content. He made headlines last year for his antics in Japan, harassing Japanese people before he was deported from the country.
He traveled to South Korea earlier this year and has generated a lot of controversy for his actions, with the police detaining him at one point after locals started attacking him in the streets for allegedly disrespecting their culture.
A November 12 news report from Korea JoongAng Daily notes that prosecutors indicted Johnny Somali for obstruction of business at a convenience store on October 17, 2024.
In the video, Johnny Somali can be seen playing loud noises on a speaker he brought inside the store and was allegedly drinking alcohol. A worker confronted him about the drinking and the streamer seemingly put away the bottle.
However, he continued to dance around the store before dumping a cooked bowl of instant ramen on the table. Furthermore, the streamer threw bits of the ramen around and then argued with another lady, allegedly calling her offensive slurs such as "Chinese a** b**ch."
The Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office has reportedly indicted the streamer without detention and has charged him with obstruction of business. Johnny Somali was reportedly handed over by the police on November 13, suggesting that he is currently in judicial custody.
